Finally moving up from old Sony 3.2mp cam

I want the this type of camera and have read all the reviews. Any of you gurus care to comment if you have one. I would appreciate it. I am leaning toward the Canon I have SD card (2gb) and they are about 100 bux less.

The S6000 usually comes in lower. It runs about $260 after rebate. Personally, I'd take a good look at the S6000 or the Panasonic FZ8. The Fuji is pretty big but has better image quality and is significantly better in low light.

I have had the S3 for about 9 months now and just love it. Very flexible. The image stabilization works perfect too.

That's the exact same decision I'm trying to make... I would HIGHLY recommend going to a shop and getting your hands on both of them. There is a significant difference in size, but let's face it... neither will fit in your pocket.

It really comes down to the feel of the camera and what you'll primarily be taking pictures of (indoor or outdoor). The fuji excels indoor, the canon excels outdoor. The fuji has face detection, which is really neat to see in action. The canon has image stabilization, which will help when you're on the long end of the zoom (and not using a tripod).

Prices... they are about the same price right now, but the fuji has a $50 MIR.

I wouldn't sweat the memory part too much as far as price goes, there's really not *that* much difference. However the performance of the memory seems to limit the fuji just a little bit on the continuous shooting mode.

I don't think you'll go wrong with either camera... they both appear to be very nice cameras.

Did you get a chance to take pix using both? The movie mode on the Canon looks awesome, but I do take indoor shots...why cant they just make one that does it all well..?

Well, I took some pics just to get a feel for the responsiveness of each, but I didn't have a memory card with me, so I didn't get to really look at the results.

I have seen the movie mode on the Canon S2 (the previous model)... and the results are very impressive to be coming from a camera.

The link I posted before has sample pictures from both... and they both produce really good results. But, I'm pretty sure those pics were taken by very good photographers (unlike me), so I would guess the average joe wouldn't have all of their pics turn out quite so good.

why cant they just make one that does it all well..?

Well, that would just make life too easy on us
