I had to leave behind my Santa Cruz sound card for the onboard sound with my motherboard. Thankfully with my amplifier now the volume level isn't very noticeable anymore compared to using the Santa Cruz over the onboard sound. Though I believe the Santa Cruz sound card is still louder than the onboard sound but that doesn't matter really with the amplifier now sense it would be way to loud like that. I did use 64 bit Vista at first but went back because I needed my Santa Cruz sound card at the time because I had no amplifier and the onboard sound was way to low.

The main reason I was forced to go Windows Vista 64 bit is because I have 4 GB of ram and want to use all 4 GB. This is really the only way. Sad to have to leave my Santa Cruz behind but maybe one day there will be 64 bit drivers made by a dedicated customer or someone that must have this sound card in a 64 bit OS. Works fine in all 32 bit oses even vista 32 bit just a little difficult to install at first but it does function. If that never happens then oh well.

Why do you need 4GB RAM?

I run 4GB RAM on VISTA HP x86 and always got 50-70% free...

Not that big of a deal but still prefer to use my Santa Cruz sound card. I like to multitask a lot. Game in the background while alt tabing out of it. Never ran two games at a time but if I ever did I would get at least 8 GB of ram.

When running a anti virus program and many other system tray icons in the background while gaming can take up a lot of ram quickly. Then if you just want to do even more it just adds up very quickly. I would of went 8 GB maybe sense ram is so cheap right now.

Leave Creative behind as Vista does not support hardware sound acceleration. I picked up a Razer AC-1 on Woot.com for $50. The best Sound Card I have ever owned. they have the drivers for Vista X64 and work with no problems. Just my 2 cents.

Alchemy wrapper is now 100% free for Audigy owners via Creative's website, its good for hardware accelerated audio for those older EAX/D3SD games, personally I'm going back to onboard sound on my next upgrade(never had any issues however with my Audigy 4 and Vista x64).
