[EDIT] already bought everything except the case. thanks for your comments. I learned a lot from you guys/girls. cost about 1500 smackers. got a lot of good deals. would have cost 2000-2500+ from some company to build this all for me. thank you all again, I will be back when i set up my bios.

I wouldn't get that case. I would pay more money and go with the Wavemaster. Better build quality.

Cool now call Cloie over at CTU and see if she can set you up with a comlink around Helen through the DOD.

It's a zalman 9500 you're thinking of, i'd go for a SI 120 with a Nexus orange myself, but your choice.

The A8N32 is a passive board, but it does run rather hot due to the 32 part, if you're not definitly going SLI it's not really worth the money imo. Think about the Epox 9na ultra board.

Get some cable ties, the stock thermal material will be sufficent (difference is tiny), make sure you get the sleeved seasonic PSU (slightly newer revision). Maybe a couple of rpm monitored fans so you can run them off the motherboard rather than a fan controller.

I agree with not getting the tsunami. Almost the entire side panel is honeycomb....you get to hear EVERYTHING from the inside of your case.

I'm almost there, and alot of similarities to your system.

A8N32-SLI
Opteron 170
G Skill Extreme 2GB DDR 500 memory
Sapphire X1900XTX
X-Fi Extreme Music
74GB WD Raptor
300GB Seagate SATA II
NEC 3550A DVD Burner
Gigabyte 3D Aurora Case
OCZ PowerStream 520W PSU
Klipsch Pro Media 5.1 Ultra Speakers

🙂

The last detail I need to work out is which aftermarket cooler I go with. I was going to do the Big Typhoon, but install looks like a pain in the ass. Does the Arctic Freezer 64 integrate with the existing mounting on the S939 motherboard? If so, I will probably get that.

I suspect your computer is in great danger of breaking down. Please PM me and I'll give the address you can send it to for comprehensive stress testing that will take at least.... oh,... 6 months or more! 😉

Enjoy the new rig!

A real bandwidth expert would follow protocol and open a socket on their PDA and get a P180.

Doesn't the P180 mount the mobo upside down? Not good for the A8N-32 SLI Deluxe. Agree with the rest tho 😀

Why would it be bad for it? 😕

The passive heat pipe cooler on the motherboard relies on gravity to pull the working fluid back down to the chipset.

I wouldn't go with an A8N-32 SLI motherboard for an ATI video card. The main appeal of the A8N-32 is that it will run TWO nVidia cards in SLI with each card running in x16 mode.

I'd get an ATI-based board (Such as the A8R-32) for ATI crossfire, or an nForce4 Ultra (which will save you about $100) for a single ATI card. The single chipset is easier to configure, and runs cooler.

Nice components, but a case with flashy lights is not my style.

I concur that I would go for the a8r32-mvp d, but the a8n32-sli d is also a really great board on its own merits, from a pure feature-set perspective. I wouldn't stay away from it just b/c it's sli / nvidia. It's defintiely up there with the 2 or 3 best s939 boards out there.
