Yes, after 7 months of slowly purchasing parts, I'm finally done, and ready to start building this system!

Specs:
EVGA X58 SLI LE
12GB of 10600 (3x4GB) G.Skill Ripjaw Series
Intel i7-930
PNY Geforce GTX 480
2x Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB (64MB cache)
Intel G2 160GB SSD
Plextor BD Combo Drive
Seasonic X-Series 750W
Silverstone TJ10B-W case
CoolIT ECO ALC

I've read mixed reviews of the CoolIT, but I'm hoping i'm getting a good copy! Wish me luck in overclocking!

Nice looking build, but I'm willing to bet you could've saved at least a hundred bucks by buying all at once/within a short timespan during deals.

on the memory, I waited t'il this month, when new egg dropped the price down to 349... The G2, I got it for 429.99 - 56 BCB from tiger direct. The GTX 480 was 499 - 60 BCB - 20 EBill Me. so about 420. the rest, I got the i7-930 from Microcenter @ 199 retail, the 1TB from Mwave for 89.99 a pop - 31 bucks saved up from my mclub rewards. EVGA was from amazon, seasonic was from ewiz, Silverstone was from amazon, as well as the coolit!

Funny, this is what I'm coming from! (It's a similar build)

Gigabyte case
EVGA 680i-A1
Q6600 G0
8GB DDR2 Mushkin Redline (4x2GB)
1x 74GB Raptor Drive (OS Drive)
2x 500GB (Hitachi Drive)
8800GTX
Samsung Combo Drive
Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium (Which I'm just gonna carry over to my new build)

Interestingly, I have a somewhat hybrid between your two systems, notable points being:

Q6000 GO
8 GB of DDR2
Bluray drive
2x terabyte drives in raid 1
5850
X-fi

I'll be adding an SSD after the Q3 refresh.

Definitely keep the X-fi, it's still miles ahead of even premium board's integrated sound.

seasonic was from ewiz... I'm having issues overclocking my system. I left the uncore to auto, the only thing I messed with CPU Vcore, and the DIMM Voltage. And I'm at 20x200, with my memory @ 6x.

I'm at 1.3V on the VCore, and 1.6 on the memory... I can't get Windows 7 to even install!

I'm trying to get a stable OC to 4GHz.. it keeps clocking down to safe mode @ 2.66 after installation of windows 7... It just wont post! (EVGA SLI X58 LE) with 3x4GB Ripjaws...

oh yeah, my memory is 1333, but the actual with the 6x is 1202MHz, so it's not even going to the max of the memory! I shouldn't even have to up the memory voltage!

Get everything running at stock for your windows install. Once everything is known to be good then start working it up.

Wow ... hopefully you have a car, if you don't you just spent your down payment.

As others have stated install windows at stock THEN overclock. Overclocking is unique to the computer you're using so its going to take you some time to figure out what settings are stable at 4ghz.

Having no OS installed would make that process pretty impossible for you.

okay, what's the limit of these CPU's as far as VCore's go? is there anything else I should be looking at besides vcore and DIMM voltage? I'm fortunate enough to have my mobo to have the 6x memory multiplier...I got windows to install @ 1.30625v on CPU and 1.55 on DIMM Voltage...

WTF???

weig.jpg

system is OC'd to 4.0GHz and ram well... it's 1100MHz... So I can understand ram not being so hot... but then again I do have 12GB's of it... 3x4GB..

Windows experience index=lol.

It's very bad software for getting an idea of your computer's performance. Try linpack to get your Gflops (might melt your computer).

okay, I think I got it stable @ 1.35V on Vcore! 1.65V on DIMM Voltage. and I made a bunch of other little adjustments! My memory is on 6x, so it's running 1143 rather than 1530 @ 7-7-7-7-20 1T. I'm @ 191x21!

Oh my jesus I want that setup .... How long have you been using dual screens? Any issues running movie's on one and games on the other at the same time with the 480?

Throw a 3D mark 06 score up!

never tried movie on one, and gaming on the other at the same time! I will definitely throw in a 3DMark 06 score! (I think it was like 24k or something when I ran it...)

what are you upgrading from?

And your thoughts on the difference.

That is what most people usually ask in a build thread.

Also you should of created this thread in my section over at cases and cooling, and done it as a work log. :p

You can ask mark or a senior mod to move it to cases and cooling if you like.

We also have a members case gallery in cases and cooling where you can show off your case. But please keep the rules on the first post.

My previous setup:

Q6600 G0 @ 3.0GHz
8GB Mushkin Redline DDR2 1000
8800GTX Artic Cooling Cooling (downgraded from the XFX dangerden 8800GTX Water block)
EVGA 680i-A1
Thermaltake Xtreme Spirit II on NB
74GB WD Raptor 10k
Maxtor 500GB
Hitachi 500GB
Samsung DVD/RW
Thermaltake Toughpower 620W

wasn't a bad system... still isn't a bad system... But this one is just better!
