Finally had the stripes removed

Had the Viper detailed yesterday and asked them to remove the stripes. While I never hated them I didn't really like them either. I was just afraid of what I'd find underneath. Luckily they came off easily and cleanly with no apparent discoloration.

Pretty decent improvement I think.

way better without.
I'd have expected a difference in color due to different sun exposition though.

I'm not sure what the story was on the stripes. They definitely seemed M inspired but if someone was trying to match a dedicated track car that he also owned he sure managed to screw it up (the color order was wrong).

One way or another I think I was saved by the low mileage and the fact it was always garaged. I couldn't see any discoloration at all.

I would be interested in doing factory like black stripes but since I actually (sort of) daily drive it it will see more sun than it has in the past. It will spend most summer days parked at work, so I doubt stripes are in the cards.

That was strange, looks much better without. Interestingly enough I was just looking around to see what the origin of the strips are and I found this on the Shelby Forum

The fender stripes are known as FIA stripes. They were first used on a Cobra (CSX2128) at the 1963 Sebring FIA race. The stripes were painted on 2128 to distinguish it form the other team Cobras (all black painted body's) that were racing. The color chosen for 2128 was yellow. To answer your question; yes it started with the race cars.
