Well, I finally did it. I had a guy come out Saturday and install central air in my house. Best $2500 I ever spent. I will get $450 of that back from SDG&E though. So, I'm sitting in my 71 degree house while it's about 80 outside.

Thanks for the tips from those of you here who helped point me in the right direction and to help me make an informed decision. The guy installed a 4 ton Goodman A/C unit. It works great and it feels so nice and cool in here. I'm loving it!

I'm spending the day getting stuff done around the house and enjoying the cold air.

Wow, thanks. It's not like I live in a hit in south Texas or nowhere. I live in an area which had maybe 10-15% of homes built with central air. Fortunately, my house was built plumbed for central air. All I had to do was add the compressor and coil. I asked for advice here and got some decent advice/information. Just wanted to say thanks to those who responded!

anyways...congrats!

I have central air in my apt and love it. I hardly use it though. I like heat and only turn it on a couple times a year. My old roomate was a polar bear though. You would walk in here and expect to be able to see your breath.

we have it but have used it like twice in the 2 years we've been here. The ceramic tile flooring keeps the downstairs so cool anyway... kind of a waste, actually... but it's also freeezing in here during the winters.

Wish I had it...

Just bit the bullet a couple of weeks ago and bought a couple window units after hanging tough
without AC for 4 summers.

One for the bedroom and one for the living room.

Then, today, I found an air conditioner just like the bedroom one on the side of the street.

Sweet! Now I gotta take the bedroom unit I bought back.

$100 free baby!

Sam's Club. You can return anything, anytime ... no limits

But it's only two weeks old, I could probably return it anywhere with a
normal return ploicy if I bought it there.

Nice, grats. Wish my place had the ducting for it, as it is they'd have to rip apart the walls to put it in and I'd guess I'm lookin at a 5-figure price tag and at least a week of work. :( Fans & window ACs for me.
