A couple of days ago, the engineering department of the school i'm going to finally posted the minimum specs of the lappy im gonna need. The specs are on here:

Pls recommend a really good pc for me. I am looking to do some moderate gaming (HL2, Battlefield, Battlefield 2?, Rome: Total War, D3...). I'm looking at maybe a IBM or a really good Dell, but if you find anything else, pls tell me.

So are you going to be an engineering major (i.e. using CAD, SolidWorks, etc.)? If so, then the Dell Precision M70 will probably be your choice. If not, then why not just go all out and get the Dell Inpsiron XPS2 for your gaming needs. If battery life is an issue then consider something with a Geforce Go 6600 (i.e. a Toshiba Tecra A4 or an Asus Z71V).

You could also check out the HP business lines.
Dell is okay, make sure you get a warranty.
If you're spending $3500, get the T43p 15" UXGA w/128MB FireGL VR3200 😀
IBM>all

wait.... engineering classes MAKE you buy a laptop? and the specs have to be specific? eh?

/me builds a destop with a UPC to bring

Whatever you get, make sure it's durable if you plan on hauling it around campus.

Given your budget and requirements, the Thinkpad T series is great, but if you want something that will be a good gamer for a while, look at the Inspiron 9300 from Dell.

Congrats on VT...make sure you come to the opening ACC game in September down in Raleigh and watch your boys get pwned by the Pack once more 😉

IBM T42 or T43. I believe T43 uses latest technology as well. I am currently looking for a T42 cause I don't need all the fancy new stuff. IBM is your best bet. It's nice looking too.

I've been looking into laptops for school as well. It seems if you want the best deal then get a dell but it seems the quality isn't up to par with some other brands. IBM are generally considered to be the best build but the lack of widescreen is a killer for me. Check out Asus laptops. From what I've been reading they are well made and quality systems. Thats what I'm leaning toward at the moment.

Thanks for the replies. Seriously looking at the T43 from IBM. And to all of you talking smack, who is the reigning ACC champ?

Who follows sports anymore these days? All so boring...

I'll have an in-depth review on the T43 out in the coming weeks, I'll be sure to post a link in Notebooks when it launches 🙂

Thanks fbrdphreak. I'm seriously thinking about buying an IBM laptop from Bill. Do you know anything about the way he works everything?
