Finally Got R9 290x

Finally got back to AMD's side since my Radeon x1600 XT. The card was heavier than I thought. Got reference board and used it in quiet mode and I like the reference blower look. Not really that annoying like most people make it out to me. Quiet during normal usage and can't hear when gaming. My open air SLI set up was louder and run at 95 C as well.

I loose about 1-2 FPS in most benchmarks but I don't notice it during game play. I do notice a big improvement over my old 660 SLI set up at 1440. I think its the 4GB frame buffer.

😀

About the time these came out I played with a friends 290x reference running BF4 in eyefininty and first thing I thought was how badly the noise issue had been overstated.

But that being said i'm surprised you went for reference over non reference. vs the 660 sli is i'd say it's a better upgrade in usage than on paper.

I found reference one at the the right price that I am comfortable spending money on and buy it. I also prefer the look and function of blower cooler.

The 290X is a great card, and the noise is manageable with the right circumstances. Keep the fan speed under 40%, with a lower ambient temperature, with a sealed case, and you're good. I still would have directed you to one of the non-reference cards though. I think they're worth the price premium they carry.

I love my new Asus DCU2 290X, pawned my previous Reference 290X off to a (technically included) co-worker for super cheap though.
