As many of you know I've been waiting on my WRX to come into the car dealership and about a week ago it finally did! I only have 500 miles on it as of yesterday. Here are a few pics to those who asked:

BTW, these pics were taken with the Canon Powershot A40 that I recently got from OfficeMAX B&M for $249.99 plus free 128 MB CF card. Search for the post if you're interested.

Oh and these pics had to be scaled down to the worst possible quality so they don't show what this digicam can do. Anyone who wants full res pics, send me a PM.

Because it's an AWD vehicle that can dust a porche boxter, be used all year round, offers four door functionality, gets decent gas milage, and holds it's value incredibly well. All that for a fraction of the price of other cars with equal performance.

It did get SEVERAL car of the year awards for good reason.

It can? in the 1/4 mile or on a track? How about on a mountain road? If it can do that then I would be somewhat impressed. It's still ugly but looks aren't everything.

I'm not sure about the US WRX (and I'm pretty sure it's a no), but in Japan (and elsewhere I'm sure) there are stock WRXs that run under 5 second 0-60 times.

How about a driver of equal ability in each car? Hell if it even comes close I'd be somewhat impressed.

it would be very close. They both run mid-high 14 sec. quarter miles with the Porsche coming up slightly ahead.

Red Dawn - compare some basic specs:

WRX
Base Number of Cylinders: 4
Base Engine Size: 2 liters
Base Engine Type: Horizontally Opposed
Horsepower: 227hp @ 6000 rpm
Torque: 217ft-lbs. @ 4000 rpm
Weight: 3085lbs
Drive Type: AWD
Turning Circle: 35.4 ft.

Boxter (base model)
Base Number of Cylinders: 6
Base Engine Size: 2.7 liters
Base Engine Type: Horizontally Opposed
Horsepower: 217hp @ 6400 rpm
Torque: 192ft-lbs. @ 4750 rpm
Weight: 2778 lbs
Drive Type: RWD
Turning Circle: 35.8 ft.

Very comparable and from a value standpoint, the WRX is king ($24,700MSRP vs. $43,365MSRP)

The WRX is a hell of a car - if you can get past it's looks and small backseat. In my eyes, get one without a spoiler and you have a great commuter/sleeper.

I agree, spoiler = ugly. Cool car though, cept I'd have chosen a 2-door WRX.

IMO the boxster is an ugly POS. I'd much rather have any other Porsche.

Maybe, MAYBE a WRX would have a chance against the wussiest Boxster, but surely the Boxster S would whip it.

Congrats on the sweet car. What options did you get?

(Though I am skeptical about the Boxster dusting performance. Power to weight ratio favors the Boxster. And it is also midengined and rear wheel drive. And it is also naturally aspirated. With good drivers I think the Boxster would do the dusting, but with poorer drivers or poorer conditions the AWD would tip the scales towards the Scoob.)

I was considering getting one at one point. Oh well.. maybe in the future.

Colors: Blue, Silver, Black

Oh and how can they get their asses handed to them by a car not for sale in the U.S.?

something not mentioned, the WRX is turbocharged, vs no turbo for the boxster. For those lucky enough to drive turbocharged cars, you will know, they have huge torque curves that are practically flat (does not drop off drastically as rpm's increase)....

I agree with TuffGuy. Here's an article from the LA Auto Show.

What is it?
2003 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII

What's special about it?
Finally giving an answer to the monumental question: "Will Mitsubishi be bringing the Evo VII to the states?" Mitsubishi announced that yes, this World Rally Championship-inspired Lancer will make it stateside. That's the good news; the bad news is that it won't happen until January of 2003.

The Evo's 2.0-liter turbocharged and intercooled inline four is expected to put out "over 250 horsepower," according to Mitsubishi representatives at the show. A five-speed manual gearbox and all-wheel drive will send the power to the 235/45R17 Yokohamas. Brembo disc brakes, sporting four-piston calipers and 14-inch rotors up front and two-piston calipers and 12-inch rotors out back, as well as antilock technology, should be up to the formidable task of arresting all that kinetic energy.

After the important question of "when can we have it?" comes "how much will it cost?" Under $30,000 is what was quoted to the group of salivating journalists, which would make the Evo VII around $5,000 or so more than a Subaru Impreza WRX but nearly $10,000 less than the Audi S4.

Why should you care?
Subaru currently has a monopoly on the affordable, yet fast, all-wheel-drive sport sedan market. But they better enjoy it while it lasts, because as of next January, those who love the "poor man's S4" concept of the Subie but not its looks will be able to stroll into a Mitsubishi showroom and buy the powerful and handsome Lancer Evolution VII. ? comparing an Evo VII to a WRX is apples to oranges. Compare an STi to an Evo VII

While the technical aspects of the car impress me somewhat, I just can't get by the looks. It's got a great motor and good handling, but I still get stuck on the looks.:(

Guess I have to stick to the good ole' V8 in my Mustang...:)
