Don't need an osci or function generator. I have 3 mics. One digital, one analog and a really nice BGA inspection scope.

Don't need variable PSs either. Mainly what I do is mobile device and credit card machine repair.

Now that I've been in here a couple hours, this is what it looks like:

Nice.

I see a very high workspace to storage ratio...too high? I'd expect to have some more shelves for that much work going on.

Haha, those "chips" are already installed by the manufacturer.

Congrats on the new digs Rudeguy, looks like you've got a backlog of work to do there. Either that or we're all getting free ipads!

18' of bench space :)

My favorite part is the shelf up above. Now I don't have to have my soldering iron, solder sucker gun, fume extractor and other bulky shit taking up bench space.

Pics or model # of the fume extractor? I'm in the market for one as I'll be doing more soldering soon.

Nice! That's actually inspiring, I really want to do something like that in my garage, though it's very small so I'll have to be creative.

Hakko FA430

Probably overkill for just solder smoke. I mainly use it when I'm doing LOCA work. The glue remover is nasty shit and this thing does a good job of getting rid of it.

Damn, things must not be THAT bad under Obama. :p

Do you allow smoking in that workshop?

Puff on my e-cig all day. If I really wanted to smoke in here I could. I have a 250 CFM exhaust fan that would take care of it. But I actually prefer my e-cig.

And yea...our economy around here is just nuts.

There is a 30x40' room that my shop comes out of that I use for "cold storage". I really only want to keep parts I use every day and inventory in here. Its very possible that my shop could expand out into the other room. Which was another reason I wanted to keep it cheap and simple.

Thats an awesome workspace

I have a small 5 foot long bench in the basement for when I feel the need to get the magnets out of a hard drive or for when I decide to build or strip down a box ...

That said, I'll eventually be moving my home office from a small 100sq foot room over to a bigger 150ish sq foot room in the basement.

That room is currently the master bedroom though.

The real master bedroom is currently filled with "misc crap" and overflow from when the woman moved in (we have too much crap now). Anyhow, when we get the room cleared out, we will tear out carpet, put in a new floor, and paint.

Then I'll be ready to prep the new office, planning to install a base of dricore and then likely a vinyl plank floor ... they scratch a bit easier than laminate, but they are otherwise very nice IMO, and they can handle water well if the worst should happen.

I won't have 18 feet of bench, but when all is said and done, I'll have a lot better situation than what I got now :)

Nice workshop. Mine is much more humble, but at least I got 2 windows behind my monitors.

I'm very jealous. Our building started off with a very small section for offices and has expanded out a bunch. So basically only 4 people have windows.

We are expanding again this fall where we will double our office space. The biggest request everyone had was for more windows.

For some reason I'm relieved to hear that. ;) An efficient shop requires an efficient system for storage and holding etc. That would rock to have both.
