Nexus doesn't have Gorilla Glass. So yes, i'd most certainly use a protection screen
I have two scratches on my nexus in about a month. I had none on my Galaxy s after abusing it for a year.

I'm a heavy user and I'm not using a screen protector. You just have to make sure to not put other crap along with your phone into a pocket. The screen protector takes away from the screen also.
I dont have anything but my phone in my pocket and I had a scratch. I dont know how GG does it, but it has never scratched on me, even kicking it across a parking lot on its screen left nothing but a GN in my pocket landed two.
Unless you can reproduce exactly the conditions that both phones were it at all times and always have it that way and never ever change usage patterns, you cannot say that the GN glass is any worse than GG.
