I finally received my 3770k yesterday, my dealer (in India) only got his first stock yesterday.
Installed straight at 43x100 at 1.2V.
My previous 2600k was 43x100 at 1.3V.
I haven't tried any other setting for my Ivy so far.
NOTE
I live in a hot city in a hot country where the avg outside temp is 35-45 degree Celsius (not F, but C). And my room temps with AC on full blast is like 20-25 degree C or so.
TEMPS
Idle:
Similar to 2600k. Maybe 0-5C more.
Usually around 40s and after some basic usage the max temps go around th e 50C mark as was with my 2600k at 4.3 1.3V.
Gaming load (Max Payne 3 for a few minutes)
Max temps similar to 2600k. 0-5C more. Around late 50s to early/mid 60s at most.
OCCT load
Max temp 71/72C after 1-2 mins while my 2600k used to do late 50s to mid 60s.
So about 4-7C more or so over 2600k
IBT standard setting test (default settings)
Passed.
Max temp touched 77C.
Never tried on my previous CPU, but would probably be around early 70s or so, so I guess less than 10C, more like 5-8C or so perhaps. At most 10C difference I guess.
But real world usage even while gaming doesn't touch 65-70C.
USAGE
My UEFI bios feels a lot smoother now. Huge difference here. Easily perceivable. With my 2600k it didn't use to be as smooth, although won't matter to most, but the difference is huge here.
Booting is a bit faster now.
My WEI is still the same, CPU at 7.8 with each.
Max Payne 3 feels smoother. With my 2600k FPS were avg 100ish but with my 3770k the lag is a lot better (most people would find my 2600k perfect as well but my eyes are really fussy and I can perceive a difference in smoothness whether FPS are high or not
). So the difference in smoothness is definitely noticeable to me. But I guess 90% of the people won't notice it and at least 50% of those who notice it won't spend this kind of money for this difference in experience. However, it exists and it is perceivable.
FPS I didn't notice because this game anyway gets me 80-120 FPS or so and I doubt there would be too much difference, at least something which I may not be able to record without a benchmark as scenes vary with each game.
Not tried any other games so far.
My Everest memory and CPU benchmarks seem a lot higher now. Significant difference though most people won't care about this.
My 3D Mark 2011 doesn't launch with 12.7 Beta drivers. Besides, I didn't try my 2600k with 12.7 beta anyway. So can't comment on that right now.
However, IMO going from a 2600k to 3770k is worth it if you shell out over 2.5-3k a year on PC/Monitor/Peripherals/Combined/etc. If you have a 1-1.5k a year budget, no point then. However, if you can afford to buy a 3770k I would definitely recommend it.
The difference overall isn't night and day. But somethings are just better. Like a better BIOS feel/smoothness, a smoother Max Payne 3 experience though even the 2600k was okay, and the FPS were always sky high, but this CPU just feels significantly smoother.
The kind of difference that perhaps I might have felt when going from an oced E4500 to stock E7200. When new apps come, the difference can be felt and same seems the case here.
IMO if people try BF3 side by side, people who are fussy should feel a difference in experience, at least in the choppier/laggy areas
