Why use some Windows program to make a linux partition? Just make sure you have free space and install. Its not tough.

Curious question...why are you using partition magic to create a linux partition?

That's what disk druid is for :) (Linux partition program)

First question I'd like to ask is what distro of linux and ver you plan on putting on your system?

That could very well be possible! Now if only I remember the partitioning part of Mandrake. Argh...it's too late.
I'm more and more in the process of losing my geek status.

By the way n0cmonkey, you joined anand AFTER me, how on earth did you get so many posts so fast? :)

after you resize in partition magic, dont you click on the free space (that you just created) and then goto "create new partition"?

Why don't you just leave some unallocated space and just let the Linux install program automatically partition the unallocated space?

Since a pm doesnt help anyone else Ill post this here:

<< yeah they match...may-b i burned it wrong? dunno.. what program would u recommend for burning it as an Image... sorry for all the trouble ...

thanks...
>>

Its possible you burned it wrong. Ive never used NERO, ezcd always worked fine for my limited burning needs (so please dont tell me it sucks, I dont care). So try that if you can. If nothing else, try booting from floppy and doing a cd install. Also, make sure you are trying to boot off of cd #1 and not cd #2 (if this is mandrake).

if you're not about to burn the iso image correctly, try something like IsoBuster which allows you to extract the contents of all the popular cd image file formats.. and burn with nero or ezcd.

from what i know, try Mandrake...havent got the damn thing installed but i hear its the most "user Friendly"

n0c... anywhere to download a boot disk forget burning these images...

Heh, how cute, a Linux dabbler. Be a man and do a full install. Get a crappy notebook or something and have a standalone.

I like Debian, but the install is rough.

You should be able to find them on Mandrake's page.
