totalling $5250 with all new patient packaging and whatnot. Kind of pricey for standard steel braces, invisalign costing $7000. I know of many places in not so great areas that would probably do it for $1000 less, but of course I had to pay for experience and the fancy facility. Funny though, because only the assistants put everything in, the Ortho hardly did anything except look over my teeth. The assistants were a bunch of burly husky 6' tall women who have very strong hands, emasculating even a rugged man such as myself. They only put in the bottom row since it hadd to be moved back in more than the top row so they want to move that in first before proceeding with placing in the top.

I went and did the xrays, they swore that they are all digital and hence produce such small amounts of radiation. I swear I felt diffferent after them. They put a thing to shield my chest, but no helmet for my head? Otherwise, they say I will have to wear these things for like 18 mo. After that, I will have a colin farrel smile :D.

enjoy them, i sure didn't (and my nearly 4 years of servitude, not counting the retainer im supposed to be wearing right now).... and i've never had anything protect my head when having xrays. the chest and crotch area (my future kiddies), but not the head. i think they are still thinking like the egyptians, who had believed the brain was not important and simply threw it out instead of putting it in a jar. we just prefer our brain's nuked. :)

wow, get ready to be annoyed. first of all, your teeth hurt for like a week after you get them tightened. then, for a long time your teeth dont line up correctly so you cant bite down or chew at all. also, it sometimes cuts the inside of your cheeks, or lips, and it hurts like hell. also, all this crap get stuck in them, and it takes 2x as long to brush your teeth. oh yeah, you are really lucky. i have to wear them for 2.5 years. and im only 1 month into it. but hey, at least i didnt have to pay for it! also, they tell you not to eat all these kinds of food. well thats just BS. i eat whatever the hell i want, and nothing has ever broken.

Hey, now you can finally live out your dream of being a dirty old man hanging out at highschool parties - those braces will get you right in!

Edit - Oh, and at over five large US with no Invisalign, you got PwN3d on pricing.

well, its not that you cant chew, its just annoying that your teeth dont bite down right. there are times when only two random points on your teeth touch eachother. right now, i cant touch my front teeth together.

it will all be worth it in the end. 18 mo isn't so bad. Come on pussies, take a little pain!!!

Take a little pain? Been there, done that, several times over. List of painful events in the history of dental experiences:

-Oral surgery to remove a cyst and pull in a tooth
-Metal palette expaner which spreads your palette apart, slowly
-Braces with those God-awful rubber bands...
-Surgery to fix a skeletal deformation (breaks upper and lower jaws) -- coming soon
-Wisdom teeth removed
-Numerous teeth pulled, I think the count is at 6 or 7

I haven't done the surgery yet, but I can get some pics on why I need to have it done... I have a sever underbite that can be attributed toa skeletal deformation that occurs in less than 6 percent of the population....

Yes, because dentists really adjust their pricing threefold based on the area they're located in.

So in other words, you like being fiscally sodomized by your orthodontist? How's that working for you?
