Finally got a Roku box

I did it. After talking to my wife we agreed to purchase a Roku box and test out the box side-by-side against our cable watching habits. Last week I got the XS model but now have a question. My wife loves her Project Runway/So You Think You Can Dance shows. She understands that she won't be able to watch them that same day (which is something we're used to) She usually DVR's the shows to watch later. My question is, with the Roku box, can she go out to the show's webpage and watch that way?

No. She cannot. Only streaming through the included channels.

We moved one of our Roku players to another television and bought an Apple TV for the main television. Then, using AirPlay Mirroring, we can wirelessly mirror streaming content from any website. It requires owning a relatively recent Apple computer.

You can work around that with Air Parrot ($10), which lets you use AirPlay on Windows or on any Mac:

We have a Roku and a WDTV Live Streaming. The WDTV does LAN playback, which is nice for ripped movies and footage you've shot from your own camera, plus it does Netflix and some other "channels".

You can stream on the Roku using the Plex channel. This requires you to have the server running on a PC, but it runs in the background and in most cases it will direct stream w/o any transcoding. It works great.

Just google roku plex and there's instructions where to get it and how to set it up.

IMO, Plex is what makes the Roku such a great media device. Sure, I use Netflix and Amazon occasionally, but lately most of the movies and music I stream comes from my PC via Plex. It's great for viewing photos on the TV too, all kept on my computer. That it cannot interact with my DVR or stream live broadcasts is of not consequence to me.
