Finally Got A good One!! T-Bird 1200 @ 1400MHz 140FSB

After going through many processors, I finally received a "good" one.

I ordered this 1200 through peachpc.com. They had pretty good Reseller Ratings, and were friendly on the phone. I paid for 2nd Day Air, and to my surprise, received it in 2 days.

The T-Bird turned out to be a blue core with the bridges unlocked. I have been just fooling around with it all day, and have it stable with the multiplier at 1000, and the FSB at 140. It is running fine at 1.80V, 3.50V I/O, 1400MHz.

I have looped 3DMark2000 many times, and also used a great Q3A Demo program called Q3 Bench, which allows many demos to be used and looped with no crashes.

Here are some screenshots that I have done so far:

Sandra CPU 3929/1924

Sandra MultiMedia 7841/9569

WCPUID

I still have some tweaking to do on the memory scores. I am running at 140MHz CAS2 Turbo, and getting around 551/653 in Sandra. For some reason my Mosel Vitelic does not like much above 146 FSB on this board, or perhaps it is a NorthBridge limitation. I may try some Mushkin Revision 3 that is guaranteed at 150MHz.

Nonetheless, I am quite happy where it is now, and the speed & performance is awesome.

EDIT: It is also stable with the Prime95 Torture Test & all background programs running 🙂

lane42, Thanks 🙂 It is not my intention to make this a "bragging" post. It is just exciting to me after having purchased many T-Birds, to finally get "The Right One" that overclocks like some of the others I have heard about. I was thinking about ordering a couple more, but it is luck of the draw, and I probably would not get another like this one 🙁

Congratulations Sonny, I wish I had good luck with the Tbird I got a couple months ago, but it just wasnt to be for me.. thats an incredible overclock.. great news for great guy.. 🙂

mastertech01, thanks for the kind words! You are a great guy in my book also 🙂

nealh, I was in a hurry to install it, but I am pretty sure that it is a week 01. I really don't want to pull my Hedgehog off again to look. I guess I should have written it down. BTW, I will be sending you a PM shortly regarding your KT7AR if you still have it for sale.

My 1ghz t-bird is running at 1.4 (140 x 10 ) everything turned on including agp 4x... hehe not to rub it in or anything. Bragging rights is what it's all about 😀

Technonut,
Congrats! 1.4ghz is the magical number I'm hoping to hit when I do my next upgrade, which will probably be in April/May. I'm holding out for a KT266 motherboard. Hopefully a MSI Master with Ultra 160 SCSI controller. The only thing that is really chapping my ass is AMD's roadmap is now showing the Palomino being delayed again!!!!! First it was suppose to be out in 1st QTR 2001, then 2nd QTR 2001, now it's 3rd QTR 2001. Oh well, congrats again!!!

Very nice!! Congrats! Hey by chance could you tell me what week yours is? I'd like to maybe try and find one of the same week and see if I get the same success.

I have a week 01 too but for some reason after 2 hours of 3DMark looping at 1350Mhz the PC just reboots. I am stil at default voltage though. Maybe it needs a boost?

Hey Technonut!

I've got the Abit KT7A-RAID and an AMD 1200MHz all built in a new Aopen HX-08. Two IBM 75GXP 30GB. When I press the powerbutton (connected where it is supposted to on the mobo of course) nothing happens! 🙁 Not even if I try to short the pins on the mobo (if the powerbutton would be broken).

Did you have to do something inparticular to get it to work? What BIOS version do you have etc.?

Any ideas?

Zer0Racer the Fan from the HSF has to be plugged into fan header #1 in order for it to boot.

Tnx for the reply. My HSF is connected to Fan1. Still doesn't work 🙁
Tried Fan2 aswell. Is there something else I can do?

Heard somewhere that if I flash the mobo with KT7-RAID (not the KT7A-RAID) it could work. That it is practically the same BIOS. But I'm not sure.

Tnx again

There was a forum member that had a Taisol HSF that would not boot even when connected to the correct fan header. He plugged in an higher RPM/RPM monitoring fan, and it booted. I am using the new Beta wz.b04 BIOS.

I would make sure that your video card and RAM are seated well in the slots, and do not have any other cards installed at first. Then if it still does not work, I would pull the floppy & IDE cables out of the mobo, and see if it boots. If it does, add the cables back one at a time. Also make sure that your HSF is installed properly. If you have another system, check the video card and RAM. It could also be a bad processor, or maybe the mobo is DOA.

EDIT: Sorry for the hurried reply. I have a busy day ahead, and have to be out of town until later this afternoon. I'm sure that you will get some other helpful suggestions 🙂

Yes AFAIK the BIOS works for both boards but if you are not even powering up you can not flash diddly. Make sure that you CMOS jumper is connected to pin #1&2.
Did you buy the Mainboard new?
What size Power Supply did the case come with?

Instead of moving away from Technonut's major achievement (congrats Guy😉 either post one new thread or PM/email me for help🙂

Sonny..great job! I think your northbridge might be your limiting factor on the FSB. My 3 sticks of Rev2 do 150 with all the tweaks. I may have gotten lucky with these dimms, but I bought them all at different times. One is even different than the other two. My first two sticks were on green PCB and the latest one is on a black PCB...good luck! Go for 1.45!! 😀 🙂
I would pick up another one myself, but I just spent $2000 making my car faster...hehe. 🙂

Aaaaaalllriiighty then 🙂

NOTE: I work at a computer store. 😉

First I tried a Thunderbird 1000MHz. No POST. Tried the 1200MHz again. No POST. Then disconnected all IDE/floppy/USB. All stuff you can think of. Only CPU, HSF, PSU, RAM and the good old Hercules GeForce2 Ultra. No post. Then...

Tested another mobo on a testbed (we have 'em in stock 🙂. It posted and everything was OK. Tried both Silent System 300W PSU and the Aopen 300W PSU from the case. Then gave it a shot with the mobo I thought was DOA. To my surprise, it worked d*mmit! 🙂

Now I just have to figure out why it won't POST when the mobo is in the case.

Thank you all for your help!!
Now have a nice weekend.. I have to work tomorrow too. :/

Just got my 1.2gig & A7V133 system running. Mine is running stable at 1.5gig. Ran 3dMark 2000 for 2 hours at 10X150. Sandra CPU benchmark is 4298/2096. I got the Mushkin Rev3. I took the Northbridge HSF off and put some Arctic Silver heatsink compound on it and a bigger fan. Used Alpha Pal6035 heatsink.

Zer0Racer: I may be way off here.. but i had a similar problem one time and it ended up being that one of the metal pins from the case were touching the motherboard (instead of hitting the hole where you tighten the screw). This was causing a short. As stoopid as that was, it gave me a headache for 2 days.. 🙂

DARRIN, Very nice overclock! Damn, you must have gotten my 1200 from peachpc by mistake 🙂

LED, 2GHz? Must have a hell of a cooling setup.

I'm happy with my 1.4GHz for now. I have not really tried to run it much faster yet. Like Insane3D said, I think my Northbridge is holding me back. My goal this time is to overclock as fast as it will go, at the lowest voltage, and have it Prime95 & Q3A looping/everyday business task stable.

It seems that there are quite a few good 1200's out there that will OC well. I plan on trying a few of the other mobos out, and it will be interesting to see other's and my results with them. I enjoy OCing as much as I enjoyed fooling with hopped up cars when I was young. (Hell, I still have a hopped up 73 El Camino that I drive on weekends 🙂 )

Congrats to all the other fine overclocks out there, and good luck to everyone that is waiting to get their stuff in.
