Finally going to attempt to get my drivers license...

i really want you on the road then, preferably in a SUV...

j/k 😉

I don't like driving and no I won't be in an SUV....yet. I'll be in a full-size pickup. 😛

Edit: Actually, I'm taking the test in a Jeep Liberty. It's the smallest thing my family owns that has power steering and is not a stick.

Thank God i drive on roads on the other side of the world 😉

Why? Are you a bad driver? 😉

Ah, but seriously, if you've had enough real world practice that you can drive around town comfortably, without cutting anyone off or maiming pedestrians and bikers, and you know all the laws, you'll be fine.

The big things to know (for testing AND real driving):

Know what to do at 4 way stops and uncontrolled intersections. (Yield to any vehicle to YOUR right--and slow way down at uncontrolled intersections.)

Know what to do at malfunctioning traffic lights (Flashing red = stop sign. Flashing yellow = procede with caution. No lights, or power failure = ALL WAY STOP SIGN.)

Know when it's OK to turn left on red. (From a one way onto another one way ONLY. Never onto, or from, a two way street.)

Relax. If you can drive the car smoothly, and you don't mess up the above (and don't speed or do anything stupid), you'll do fine. 🙂

EDIT: And if you don't do fine, that's OK too. Don't feel bad if you need more practice. With only six hours, we won't! 😉

If you've only driven 6 hours, I don't want you on the streets of Georgia. Atleast I live in CA. Most people can drive except in rain.

good luck 🙂

I didn't get my license until I was 22... in high school and college, I never really needed to have a license, so I never bothered to get it. it wasn't until I graduated college and commuting to work every day became an issue that I finally got around to getting one.

wasn't that difficult. I failed my first road test, but that was because the jerk who taught me how to drive never bothered to explain the difference between a rolling stop and the kind of stop they expect you to make during the test.

Well I got it....woooo.....

I really could care less that I have it now, I don't plan on doing much driving.

Congrats. So was it as bad as you feared?

lucky for you you're in australia... i just got mine and have been driving the suv nonstop!

No, but I did have to wait for 2 hrs after my reserved time to take the damn thing. :| Ended up taking it in my mom's Denali. I did hit the curb while parallel parking but I don't think they measured it right. Just looking at it a Civic would have a hard time pulling it off.

Glad they dont have parallel parking on the test down here in FL.... I've been driving for 8 years now and i still cant do it 🙂

Each time i either end up on the curb/grass or way too far out in the street 😀

WTF? Where do you live? Here, you have to have 6 hours by a licsensed instructor, 6 hours of observation, and 24 hours of drive time under parental guidance.

I'm getting mine tomorrow too, best of luck to you. I've been waiting 8 fvcking months but finally nothing can stop me. What almost pissed me off to no end is that today I was like "Yeah, finally NOTHING can stop me. If the world blew up later today I'd still be taking my license test tomorrow." Then I call my dad's cell phone to see where he is and the car got a flat tire. :|

I was going to be royally pissed then he told me it would be fixed.

Whoa! I practiced it for the road test, but I used to turn one way, completely stop, turn the other way and go in perfectly after VERY LITTLE practice... After the road test I already started doing it in one motion basically and haven't had any problems *knocks on wood*

It really ain't that hard man... 🙂

edit - In a Dodge Durango, if it makes a difference :/

Please tell me I am not going to see you on I 285 any time soon. If I do, you will probably just be a big greasy spot the tow trucks and the fire department are cleaning up one day.

I have been driving since I was 15 years old, and I am now 37. Driving 285 still makes me nervous.
