Finally getting a PS3

For those that don't know, Amazon is running a promotion on the PS3 160GB Slim where you get a $75 promotional credit with the purchase. A fortuitous timing with a $20 Amazon credit, $50 Gift Card and $150 check from doing a week's worth of jury duty made me jump all over this. Surprise, right? The CG forum mod who also writes about video games doesn't have a PS3. Trust me, it took five years of wearing my wife down before she finally agreed to let me buy one.

Anyways, here is the first batch of PS3 games I'm looking at leading up to all the stuff coming out next year. Give me some input on which I should go with first or if there are others I'm missing.

 • Killzone 2
 • Uncharted 1 / 2
 • inFamous
 • Gran Turismo 5
 • Resistance 1 / 2
Eventually

 • God of War III
 • God of War Collection
 • Heavy Rain
 • LittleBigPlanet
 • Ratchet & Clank
Future

 • Uncharted 3
 • Resistance 3
 • Killzone 3
 • LittleBigPlanet 2
 • The Last Guardian
 • Shadow of Collossus / ICO
 • SOCOM 4
Any other ideas suggestions? Especially when it comes to accessories.

I'd move GoW 3 up and Resistance 2 down on your list.

This, and I would remove LBP from the list :). I might be the only person the world that did not like LBP.

You should also try Flower. It's the one game on the PS3 that my wife will play.

I agree with the GoW 3 being moved up. I'd also move Ratchet & Clank up. I don't know what it is about those games but they are amazing. I rarely go for 100% completion in games but with R&C I didn't want it to end - even with the PS controllers hurting my hands.

I can't stand LBP. I like my games to be sold based on their own content, not stuff that players might make, thank you. Yes I played the game. It isn't worth the $30 it is now and sure as hell wasn't ever worth $60.

Well, if I move GOW III up then should I move the GOW Collection up as well. Want to play them in order (no, I never owned a PS2 either so I never played any of the GOW games).

Same here. I've owned a PS3 for a while, but I haven't played any of the GOW games. I plan on buying the collection, and GOW3 in the new year.

I just recently got a PS3 and the first game I bought with it was GOW3. I didn't play the first two GOW's, but the third one was still epic and enjoyed it a lot. So I don't think you need the first 2 games to enjoy the third.

You may already know this and would have done it anyway since you've always sounded liked a responsible parent, but definitely wait for the kids to be put to bed before firing up GoW.

I'd put Heavenly Sword on that Eventually list, although perhaps towards the bottom. If you like tactical games, don't forget about Valkyria Chronicles.

I hated LBP. Boring and overrated IMO. :) I didn't think Resistance 2 was anything special either.

And I agree with Flower.

Valkyria Chronicles if you like turn-based squad-level strategy games with light RPG elements.

I might be the exception here, but GoW is really overplayed. If you have played one, you have played them all. Very repetitive and gets old fast.

i would just skip lpb and go with lpb2 instead. skip gow collected. gow3 is enough.

resistance 2 was fun. prolly skip 1 unless u really care about story.

unchart 1 and 2 are great. heavnly was fun.

heavy rain is slow to start but eventually gets really good.

I'm just one of those people who doesn't like to start a series part way though.

Yep. Even Black Ops is one of those after bedtime or when the kids aren't home games.

What killed me was I was playing through the single-player while the kids were playing outside. I didn't hear my son come in the door during a cut-scene. He made it to the living room before I realized he was there and paused it.

Son: "That game sure has a lot of bad words."
Me: "Yes, it does. And I better not here about you saying any of them."
Son: "I know."
Me: "And don't tell your mother."

You DO know there's a content filter, right?
