I've been using Firefox for years now. Last couple of months it has been crashing alot. Usually Adobe Flash making it freeze when watching youtube videos or using other websites with adobe flash.

So seems like the latest versions of Firefox has gone downhill. Sad...

Using Explorer now with no crashes.

Same here, plus THIS problem

plus the random crashes like you mentioned

Firefox has lost the king throne. it is very slow in browsing compared to Chrome

I am switching to chrome as the speed of browsing is insane! everything opens instantly now

won't go back to IE though since it doesn't have a proper ad blocker like Chrome does, I love my Ad-Block Plus for Chrome! I hate ads

good luck man

One more thing I love about Chrome is, lets say I format my PC, the next time I install Chrome, all my bookmarks, themes in Chrome, add-ons are still there! IT's amazing how it syncs everything with your Google account

Chrome. Or Chromium if you don't want Google spying on you and like to manually update flash and browser.

i don't like having a google account. I had a lot of problems with their servers getting hacked and all my accounts kept getting comprimised and emails being abused. Google always let me know, but when i switched Cell phone service, i couldn't recieve their stupid ID pin numbers and they would'nt let me get access to them unless i could remember the specific dates i set up the account..etc which was years ago. so i ditched them.

1-Does Chromium sync stuff like Chrome does?

2- Where to downloadthe latest Chromium on their site the Windows download page is broken (nevermind, it's working now but there like 100s of download version it is so confusing)

3- Is this the latest Chromium version? Chromium 23.0.1233.0
how come it is newer than the current Google Chrome version?

kthxbye

berryracer and DarkVision

Thanks for the suggestions! Will try it, as my main email account is gmail

berryracer: Almost as if Firefox has gone the same way as AVG antivirus did. Been using MS Security Essentials the last couple of years. Also, Explorer is much slower than Firefox was. So Chrome will be very nice for me when it's even faster than Firefox plus the syncing with gmail!

BTW: I'm not so sure I wanna sync chrome with gmail if that compromises security on gmail account more.

I have been having issues with firefox too. The Issue I have been having is that for some odd reason certain sites do not load of properly and thus I am unable to click on links, etc. Its not a problem with the websites either since I am able to load them in another browser and not have any issues.

I've moved over to chrome purely for the sync function. Firefox is still installed though :)

Chromium i think has daily builds and likely why their a higher version than Google's. I'd say Google only uses the version that they test to be most stable.
All Google does is take Chromium and add their update service, Flash and some kind of privacy tracker. That's the stuff that slows it down imo.

Also, just to toss this out. There is another take on Chrome called Commodo Dragon. Its a version of Chrome by Comodo security and offers a more secure browsing experience. I used it for a while and liked it. I always make it default browser when i fix anyones computer...a little extra layer of security never hurts.

BTW: I'm not so sure I wanna sync chrome with gmail if that compromises security on gmail account more.

I don't think it will comprimise it more. My problem was with someone or people hacking Google and stealing account information. Considering that i'm on Linux and use complex alpha numerical passwords that kept getting stolen several times within a couple months, i'd say Google's servers get compromised all the time and for whatever reason my 4 accounts became a target or picked out. Syncing your account won't change anything.

From the Chromium Release Channel page: http://www.chromium.org/getting-involved/dev-channel/

I personally use the Beta channel.

Stable channel: This channel has gotten the full testing and blessing of the Chrome test team, and is the best bet to avoid crashes and other issues. It's updated roughly every two-three weeks for minor releases, and every 6 weeks for major releases.

Beta channel: If you are interested in seeing what's next, with minimal risk, Beta channel is the place to be. It's updated every week roughly, with major updates coming every six weeks, more than a month before the Stable channel will get them.

Dev channel: Want to see what's happening quickly, then you want the Dev channel. The Dev channel gets updated once or twice weekly, and it shows what we're working on right now. There's no lag between major versions, whatever code we've got, you will get. While this build does get tested, it is still subject to bugs, as we want people to see what's new as soon as possible.

Canary build: Canary builds are the bleeding edge. Released daily, this build has not been tested or used, it's released as soon as it's built. Because there's no guarantee that it will even run in some cases, it uses it's own profile and settings, and can be run side by side another Chrome channel. By default, it also reports crashes and usage statistics to Google (you can disable this on the download page).

I've used Firefox since V0.7, and I've never had an issue with it.

Well let me just show you a small glitch in Firefox, very simple one

go to http://www.station-drivers.com/page/intel chipset.htm

then quickly scroll up and down with your mouse wheel and notice how the screen flickers so bad

With Chrome this never happens

plus, haven't you noticed that chrome is at least double the speed when browsing? everything opens almost instantly

With Firefox, even on my 30 mbps connection it is slow as heck compared to Chrome

That page flickers in my Firefox, but not Midori. I've honestly never seen that before. It would be interesting to hear an opinion regarding the page source from someone who knows web design. It seems like that page is doing something weird.

I'd say Chrome's a bit faster than Firefox, but not mind blowingly faster. To customize Chrome like I have Firefox, I'd have to do some serious hacking on the browser. The few ms I'd save on page load times would be exceeded by far in the time it took to customize it. I could chalk that up to a valuable learning experience, but I'm not interested in learning to hack Chrome, or add to it's ecosystem. If I were to learn anything, I'd rather it benefit Mozilla, as their reason for being is promoting an open web, and I find that philosophically agreeable.

Don't get me wrong, I was a Firefox fanboy for a long time but finally gave up because everytime I access a webpage, if I hit CTRL + F5 I see new content is is there, meaning, Firefox is not getting the latest version of the page, no matter what tweaks I did, sure, I can disable Firefox's cache and set it to 0, but that means slower web browsing

In Chrome, only if it detects there is newer content does it grab it, so I never face that issue, I always see the latest content. This is very important when viewing threads on mesage boards, or where going to drivers pages to check for updates, or regular software updaters like MajorGeeks or FileHippo

And that flickering issue, while it certainly IS poor coding, why doesn't it happen with Chrome?

You see the point, sometimes, we just have to accept the fact that our beloved program isn't up to par anymore

I still love Firefox's extensions more, the bookmarks manager is much better than Chrome, the interface, the themes, but that's about it. When it comes to pure web browsing experience, Chrome is way better.
And speaking of the speed increase while viewing webpages, I kindly ask you to try Chromium for 5 mins only, load all your sites, you will fall in love with the speed and will find it very hard to go back to Firefox

just my 2 cents :)

Dunno. I've never had that issue. I'd suspect some kind of profile problem. If you cared to, you could check it by wiping every trace of Firefox from your system(including hidden directories), and doing a clean install.

Midori doesn't flicker either. That and Chrome use Webkit, so I'm guessing that's why. I'm not qualified to say why Gecko flickers. It could be an error in the rendering engine, or it could be less forgiving of errors on the page.

I've used it before. I used to keep every major browser on my system so I could keep up with what they're doing. I don't care that much anymore. I have Iceweasel(rebranded Firefox), Midori, Elinks, and Links2 installed. I always liked Opera, but I've gotten more particular about running proprietary software, so I don't use it anymore.

.

Dude I format every 3 days thanks to True Image Backup where I restore my system to the point before installing any software and tthat FF issue is ALWAYS there

you probably never noticed it coz you dont do a CTRL + F5 on every site you visit to see that there was newer content not loaded :(

I don't think I've ever done a force refresh in my life. You format, and install all your applications again? How does that work? I'd spend an hour tweaking Firefox alone, much less all the other software I use.

Since I switched to Linux most of my Flash/Firefox issues are gone. I did run into one incident where it locked up on me but so far so good.

An issue I do have with any Mozilla product under Linux though is that the cursor will sometimes get stuck in the hand icon and I need to switch to console mode so I can kill the application to get my normal cursor back as it will not click or do anything in that state. Thunderbird does it and so does Firefox and it's a known bug, just not sure when they'll actually fix it.

Whoops. I lied when I said I never had problems. I do get that on rare occasions. Alt-F Q will close the window ;^)
