After 4 years playing on 1ghz Thunderbird 128 ram Geforce2MX i finally climbed up the Food chain. (WOOHOO!)

Finally put the rig together, installed the OS. Installed drivers etc. And final touch was to close the side panel. Right before i put it on the video card was a little warm - hotish..?
Not sure if that should be like that.

Oh yea
C2DE6400
8800GTS 640
WD 320 Gigs
OCZ 2gb ram DDR2 800

Anyways, il test it out with oblivion. I do plan to OC, so where do i start with that?

Hi, no i'm using Noctua NH-U12F.
I am also wondering when OCing, do i have to change speeds of the Ram as well?

Thanks..

Oh man, this thing is so quiet compared to my pervious grandpa rig.
Im excited.

I checked the bios. Under hardware monitoring.
CPU Temp 49
M/B Temp 48

not sure what the standard is

I downloaded MBM 5
Not sure how to set up the temp sensors,
Il try everest.

:D Sounds like the core components of my rig as well. I hope you have better luck OCing than I. my rig is running stable @ 2.6 GHz right now. I can't seem to get above that though--seems to be a RAM issue. I can't move the RAM voltage from 1.85v, or it freezes up. But oh well, the machine is good for everything I want to do with it thus far. I hope you enjoy your machine!!

Thank you sir! Not gonna attempt to OC until i get some idea of how to go about doing it :)

PS:
Using everest, My mobo is at 48C and my CPU is at 25C and my CPU#1 / Core#1 is at 56.

What are the standards?!

Everything sounds okay.

I see you got everything finally. What are the full specs you decided on?

Use Core Temp or Intel's Thermal Analysis Tool to check CPU core temps.

There are no standards, per se. From what I've heard and read, 60 degrees (C) is what you want to stay under (on load). My C2D E6400 idles @ 46, and loads at 54.

Hello!
Decided on:
C2D E6400
OCZ 2GB DDR2 800
WESTERN DIGITAL 320GB
8800GTS 640
P5N-E SLI
Noctua heatsink (This thing got me off guard, didn't realise that they get this massive.)
Corsair HX520 Watt PSU
What else?

What is this Intel's thermal analasys tool?

Okay, thanks for the tip i'll test that out later :)

EDIT: Where can i find a benchmark program to test out my GFX card?

LOL. Damn, you really do almost have the same parts as me. My list. I'll have to keep tabs on your OC progress.

iTAT

I know the P5N-E SLI is good for OCing, but i don't have one, so i don't know the bios all that well.

Check out this thread:
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=29&threadid=1972653&enterthread=y
Will have some ideas i imagine

And the excellent XS as always:

Thanks, il have to read up on that thread.
Looks like i was at 62 on load (playing Oblivion on High with HDR),
After idling for half an hour its at 57. Seems high without OCing.

Certainly a bit warm for idle.

What case?
Maybe poor airflow?

I know my case doesn't have all that great airflow, so i run with the side open, which lowers temps hugely.

Centurion 534 Plus.
It was 80 buck, nothing special.
Seems a little better now after playing q4 for 2 hours, cpu Temp is at 59. going down slowly.
Im using Core temp Beta to read the temp.
Maybe i should remove the side, might improve it.

You shouldn't be running anywhere near that high, just gaming. There are people that run much lower temps than that, and are overclocked 1.1 Ghz higher than you're running. Either you don't have enough case airflow, or your heatsink isn't seated fully. Of course, that's assuming that your IHS isn't higher around the edges, not letting the heatsink make contact with the core, like about 20% of the C2D's seem to be.

Il have to open it up and play around with the fan. what is IHS , pardon my ignorance.
