I've decided to get a cell phone, and I want to spend up to ~$30 a month. I want a cool phone, with games, and ringtones...stuff like that. I live in Littleton, CO and my zip is 80128. Right now I'm thinking of getting AT&T which would have 250 anytime, and 2000 night and weekends. Any help/input is greatly appreciated.

get a nokia if you can. The cliche phone is the nokia 5165..er..was. Great rugged phone, i can't tell you how many times i've dropped it and it still works, however there is a slight play in the battery where it can move up 3 mm and down 3mm.

Check out Verizon's America's Choice. I get 300 peak, then 4,000 n/w for 35 a month. Plus I got a free phone.

Cingular's national plan can't be beat for now, if you travel at all. 250 anytime, 3500 n+w, free roaming anywhere in the USA, and free long distance, plus all of the other features. Although it unfortnately appears that you can't get Cingular as they don't serve your area.

AT&T or Voicestream are probably your best bet, because they both have the cool Nokia phones...sure, with Sprint & Verizon, you can get a phone with ringtones and games, but the collection of sites with ringtones for Sprint & Verizon phones isn't as extensive as it is for the Nokia's that AT&T, Cingular and Voicestream use. And who can pass up Snake? :)

I'd recommend the Nokia 3360 with AT&T service, its a great little phone, and is basically the replacement for the 5165 (consumer oriented, "fun" phone, with changeable faceplates, downloadable ringtones, games). Its very easy to use. I'd recommend you buy an aftermarket lithium battery from Newegg for $15, as the included one is weak and heavy (although I used it for 5 months). If you go with a Sprint or Verizon phone, you will most likely be paying more for the phone.

For $30/month, Voicestream only offers you 200 anytime minutes (with no night minutes, only weekends) so I wouldn't recommend them.

AT&T uses TDMA which means that if you are going down the road and you get out of range of one tower, the call will be dropped, and not transfered to the next tower. Stay away from AT&T until they upgrade their legacy equipment.

Cingular is the same thing.

Voicestream is GSM which is pretty much the rest of the world standard (outside of the usa)

Verizon and Sprint use CDMA (I think) which is pretty good.
