Hey all, been a while since i've been on here. Still running the pc that's in my sig with only hard drives being the upgraded parts from what I built back in the day. I bought some new Samsung 24" monitors last year to get rid of the dual crt setup I had before. And well 24 inches just pushes my 7800 agp card to the limit. So now my main and backup pc each are now using one.
I'm selling my backup rig for $300 and have $300 more for a total of $600 to build something better.
I'll be using the current case and power supply that I have currently along with my hard drives.

CPU-Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 wolfdale 3.0 65w $167.00
Mobo- Asus p5n-D nForce 750i SLI Atx board $129
RAM- G.Skill 4 x 2gb 240 pin ddr2 1000 (pc28000) $109.98
Video- EVGA GTX260 core 216 448bit 896mb pci express 2.0 x16 hdcp $184.99
Total =$589

I really wanted to go i7 but just couldn't work a system out for the money I have to spend. I have a feeling that after stepping up from what I'm currently running I'll be happy. LOL!

TO answer the sticky post on my use, parts , and what the heck I'm doin....
PC will be my main pc, some gaming on it (witcher, left 4 dead, crysis, guild wars, diablo 3 if it ever comes out....
budget is $600.00 U.S.
Partial to Intel and Nvidia (core2 is great and EVGA service rocks)
keeping the main hard drives from my current pc , and power supply
resolutions I'm running are 1900x1200 native of my monitor (24")
and I would like to build in the next week

**If you have P4 3.0ghz, you can wait just 1 month because Core i7 (1156) socket will come out on September 6th**

I wouldn't pay $167 for a dual core processor today. I believe Core i5 quad core 2.66ghz (no Hyper threading) will cost $199 on September 6th. Considering it is a nehalem core, it will be as fast as that Wolfdale but for $30 more bucks you'll have 2 cores!

If you can't wait, and you have a Microcenter near you, you can get:

(1) Core i7 920 for $199 + tax (estimated at say $210).

Now EWiz has $30 OFF for $300+ orders with code CUPCAKE30

(2) Add: GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD3R $190 - $15MIR = $175 Free shipping
Add: GIGABYTE nVidia GeForce GTX 260 216 OC 896MB $180 - $30MIR = $150 Free shipping
Less: $30 off $300 orders
Sub-total: $295
Note: Gigabyte 4870 with Zalman cooler is $10 less; MSI 4890 OC or Gigabyte GTX 275 with rebates are $45 more than the 260 option above.

(3) Add: OCZ Gold 6GB (3 x 2GB) - $90

Total: $595

Although I will tell you that the machine priced by yh125d will be faster for gaming due to it having 4890 and socket AM3 has a cheaper upgrade path than 1366.

The only concern I would have is you reusing the old PSU from your P4 rig:
- likely lacks 24-pin adapter
- likely has inadequate 12V rail for modern graphics cards.

Theres a sticky with questions you should answer for us so we can put together a system that will meet your needs. 🙂

I read the sticky after! lol! I haven't been on here in a long time.
Back to what Russian sensation was touching on with my power supply......I know that it will come to be an issue if/when I decide to sli I've been reading and reading and looking on the egg for deals......what kind of power output will be needed if I want to run 2 of the gtx260's I haven't seen many that have 4 of the 6 pin molex connectors. And I don't want to buy some thousand watt beast that is way overkill for what I need. to respond to the sticky....I'll update my first post. thanks guys!

Planning on an SLI upgrade is almost always a bad idea, by the time you decide to upgrade theres usually new cards out. And unless your using a 30in monitor SLI just doesn't provide much extra, and the newer chipsets are faster and more stable than the old 750i. But to your question for 2x qtx260's I wouldn't use anything less than an SLI approved 800w ps.

And the point Russiansensation makes is valid your old P3 power supply most likely won't run a single qtx260, so you will need a new PS regardless of wether you SLI or not.
