i am glad that i can announce i am finally done debating what parts to get and i am also done ordering. Two of the components are on pre-order, but i expect them to be availabe soon.

* MSI K8N Neo4 Nforce4 Ultra. (I dont care for SLI. Thats why i got the ultra)
* OEM A64 3500+ week 41
* ATI X850XT PE (ETA maybe next week, even next days. i pre-ordered to be on the safe side)
* 1Gig OCZ 3200 plat rev2 (yes i know, i am crazy
* Enermax 465 Whisper II with 33A on the 12V (modified it and equipped it with 24p plug)
* Hitachi Deskstar 7k250 SATA
* XP-90 (Thermalright told me there might be minor probs with the XP-120 [dimm 1/2 on the neo4 cant be used with the XP-120, so i got the XP-90). Enermax 90mm variable speed fan.
* audigy 2 value

* the rest is from my old system, eg. optical drives, case, floppy etc

I have to say 2004 was a bad year for building, i wanted to build this computer EARLIER 2004 already and did never expect it will take that long
Also..the prices are absolutely hilarious for motherboards and graphics cards right now. Well, we all know that...

After a long time debating whether to get 6800GT pci-ex or not i saw some X850XT Platinum popping up listing for as "low" as $450. I know this is a lot of money but the other cards are even more....and one reason is i also always had slight concerns regarding some image quality (shimmering etc..) issues with the 6800GT.

I *really* wanted to go NV this time...but well...this kinda turned me off. Also...as it looks the X850XT PE is the fastest card *except* for a few fps less in Doom3...which kinda made it a nobrainer. I will play D3...but i will very likely play much more Direct3D games.
Also..i might get more money selling the X850XT PE in 6 months or so when R520 is ready :)

Wondering how one can tell what week their processor is?

Looks good! I'm going to post my own thread pretty soon, somewhere b/n "is this good, help!!!" and "check this out my rig is going to rock" (because I'm pretty confident about most of my choices, but am still open to advice :) )

just look at the chip...eg. if it says 0441TPAW...it mean year "04" and week "41".

just to let you know about the crazyness going on right now...i just got a "sale" email from monarch.

they sell a stinkin' Radeon X800 for $470 (!) - a evga 6800gt ultra pcie..hold yourself...$685 !!!! and a X800XT for $649 :)
The MSRP for the upcoming X850XT Plat. is $549, and some already list this card WAY below MSRP. Why on earth would someone buy a slower, outdated card (like X800XT) for $650...is totally beyond me.....also...i dont say that a 6800GT ultra pcie is bad....but NOT for $685...no way.....

Thats why i am glad i am done now. I also think i got pretty good deals on all my components.

Nice choice on Hard drives man. It is a an awesome drive... I bought two.

I bought a eVGA 6800 Ultra. Let us know how you like the X850XT PE... Should be pretty nice and a little boost over the Ultra for sure. I have the same Ram as you also, nice choice.

Don't care for that mobo but let us know how it goes

Bragging would be better served once you get it put together:) lol.
The reason people are paying through the nose for those "lesser" vid cards is because they can actually get them.
The one you ordered is as available as Adriana Lima.

I'd really like to wait on the DFI nf4 Ultra board but can't say I'll have the patience.

yeah...i am also amazed that there are forums around with the guys from OCZ, and it looks they really know their stuff. Seem to have amazing customer service there.
(Aka: "Hey, i cant reach 290 HTT@1T, please RMA :) )

That kind of comment almost makes me want to waste $250 on their RAM... or is it more? I can't remember. Hopefully Zebo's RAM timings thread will keep me from splurging for 1 or 2 more FPS because of tighter timings...
