As an english kid I liked candy, so it's no surprise that my mouth began to rott, as an english mouth typically would. By the time I hit my teens I had fillings in many of my back teeth. Well over the past few years I've taken to going to the dentist again and all of those metal fillings had started to deteriorate. The dentists knocked out the old metal ones and filled in with the nice new white bonding. Now there is no sign that I abused my teeth for all those years.

My advice to youngsters is: if your parents complain about you eating candy and getting fillings tell them to shove it, because with the more synthetic substances in your mouth, the less that can rott. Suck back those colas, kids!

Right on!

Going on 20 years of zero cavities! Having a German ancestry rocks...things are so strict in my family, that candy's a once-in-a-great-while treat! ;)

I've still got the old silver colored fillings in most of my molars. I'm sure they'll need replaced at some point but I'm not looking forward to more drilling.

I haven't had a cavity since I was young, but when I did have them put fillings in, they were white.

Not sure when the last time you had a filing was, but they're not bad now if you have a good dentist. The one I've got now puts in the numbing juice really slowly so that it doesn't hurt, and he doesn't use a dental dam (one of my a-hole dentists I once used used one of them. They are very annoying).

One of my old cavities, including the new rott, was so deep I think he had to go an inch into my jaw :D

Yeah, when a tooth has a cavity (it's rotting), they have to grind out the rott and fill it. In the past they've used mercury.

Mercury is a liquid at room temperature Skoorb, it also is highly toxic to the human body ;)

Who cares about cavities? It's gum disease that you have to worry about.

Hey kids, learn to floss!

Heheh.... I ate candy and soda as a kid, but I brushed my teeth 2-3 times a day. No fillings here :)
