The Jagged Alliance remake (http://www.jaggedalliance.com/en) was sounding down right fantastic until everyone found out it was no longer turn based. Luckily, it doesn't look like these guys are making the same mistake, not that they are making an official X-Com game or anything.

Let us hope. It's seemingly just too hard to capture the atmosphere of the original. Why?

WHYYY?

I think its that everyone uses various unreal engines and I'm starting to think it's simply not xcom(my) enough.

Yea, I know what you mean. I thought UFO:Aftermath or whatever it was called was pretty good, but just didn't seem to have as good of a style in the way everything was presented. Just made me reinstall the original and play that.

Bumping an old thread. They've been at this for awhile it seems.

Has anyone else had a chance to try out the alpha build of Xenonauts the developers just released? On the surface, it looks and plays a lot like Xcom, but others have tried to copy the formula and from what I've read they haven't done very well.

Links below for those interested.

On the superficial front I really dislike how frumpy the military guys look and what's with the slumped shoulders? Stand up straight soldier! And why don't any of them sport a Guile haircut?!?

And yes, they've also jumped onto the Kickstarter bandwagon:

So... you guys can't just play vanilla? has to be a remake eh?

We've played the original so much we can all see the overwhelmingly glaring flaws, all of which are easily correctable in a true remake that is faithful to the original formula.

So, has anyone touched this over the last year?
Still isn't properly released to this day, and with Enemy Within being too expensive for my taste, I was considering giving this a little go.
