Well, I finally bit the bullet and have a 6800GS on the way to me. I've been limping along for a while with my 9600Pro, and after playing the FEAR demo, I realized it's finally past its time. I am quite shocked to see that the baseline for a decent card seems to have shifted from $150 when I bought my previous 3 video cards to $200+ now, which sucks.

Remember those glory days when the good, solid cards were $130 and the absolute top of the line killers were $210? I cannot possibly think about justifying a $500 video card, so it appears I will never come close to owning a top card....but, anyway....

I got the BFG version, and this will be my last AGP card ever. Hopefully mine will unlock to 16 pipes without artifacts, but even if it doesn't, it should be enough of an upgrade to make me happy for a while. :)

please post how your card performs, and good luck, i hope it unlocks for you as well!

Good choice :). After getting my 7800GT though, I don't think I could use anything less. 8200 in 3dmark05 baby :D

I didn't know you could unlock any pipes on the 6800GS - what sort of success rate do they have?

They're only unlockable on AGP versions. Nothing to unlock on PCIe.
