Finally, a good use for that thermal bubble gum stuff!

I kept having trouble with my shim moving when I tried to put the heatsink on. (I'm a shim newbie.) So, I used 4 tiny bits of that thermal bubble gum crap on the corners of the shim and pressed them down onto the processor. It holds the shim in place nicely now.
Just thought I'd post this for the heck of it.

Jeff7, doesn't this cause a small air gap between the CPU and the heatsink, no matter how tiny? Thanks for your time.

Not if you're using something equally thick on the CPU

Doesn't seem to be causing any problems at all. It's a very tiny bit, only at the far corners of the shim too, so it should flex enough to allow proper contact. These are very tiny pieces, maybe only a quarter of a millimeter, if even that much. I did consider the possible gap problem, so that's why I used so little of it.
The CPU temp is reading pretty low actually, considering that I bought the cooler for as much as I paid for the shim. And of course I'm using Arctic Silver II on the core itself.

Is it available in rasberry? That's my favorite. I wonder if you chewed this stuff would your body temperature drop or maybe even assume room temperature.


Seriously though, that seems like a nice idea if you use shims.

I find most shims seem to stay in place if they are well made. They are cut to be pretty exact and i haven't had the problem of shims moving on me. Although it seems like a pretty cool idea.
