Being a IDIOT, I bid on a drum brake bicycle hub someone had up on Ebay.

Well I win the auction and then I get the shipping costs from Australia.

With the winning bid it comes to $50.00. (The hub was $20.00)

Since I work at a bike shop, I can get one of these NEW (this one was used) for $42.00.

At $20.00 it WAS a good deal, but $30.00 SHIPPING!?!?!

So I write the seller and tell him my story and ask if he would be willing to sell to the next highest bidder if I pay the difference. But that if he wont, I understand, and that a deal is a deal and I WILL follow through if he doesn't want to do that.

He writes back today saying he's willing to realist the item at no cost to me and no hard feelings!

What a nice guy!

Hopefully NOT.

I DID offer to follow through on the deal.
If he does (which I doubt) I guess I can always use the reply option (something I've never had to do)

up until like 5 months ago nearly every ebay transaction i had was good.

I did the same thing kinda. i won a PS2 auction when my wife brought one home from wal-mart. i emailed her and let her know what was going on. She just said pay for the fees and no problem!

I knew he was in Australia, I just had NO idea shipping from there would be so much.

I bought some tail light assembly's from there awhile back, and shipping on THOSE wasn't half that much.

And they HAD to weigh more AND taken up more space!

did you offer the seller money to relist the item?

as a seller you can , do a request final value credit and mark (seller and buyer agreed not to complete transaction) and get the money back.

so he will lose whatever it cost to list it, which at the least is probably around 35cents. still a nice seller though, i've done this on occasion. i would never hold someone to buying an item they didnt want.

This happened to me once, I bid on a shaver and won it. Decided that I didn't want it and just honestly told the guy about it, he's like no problem just buy from us again in the future and gave me positive feedback. I definately will when I'm in the market for a shaver again.
