Ditch the raptor 74, the 150 is 21% better in performance and has twice the volume. If you can't afford the $300 price tag then you can't afford a raptor at all 😛

Seasonic is the quietest you'll find, although they are not sleved by any means (wiring's a bit crap to be honest). Fortrons should also be quietish, rather efficent designs. The Neo HP range isn't too loud, just has a very bad rep for compatability (that it deserves, alhtough i doubt your mobo is a potential victim).

eVGA is the only brand to buy if you're overclocking. You'll still be in waranty if you stick the watercooling on and then burn the card out at silly settings.

i would wait for the new video cards to come out in a month or so, you are going to be really dissapointed with the gtx when the new cards come from ATI. but, i guess you could just sell it when it comes out. also, yeah, dont get a raptor, also, RAID0 is a marketing strategy that offers little performance gain.

I don't feel like spending $150 more for 76gb more of storage that I won't use on the drive... I think it would be alot faster to use two 74gb drives in raid 0 than the 150, but i'm no expert.

Yeah I am planning to wait... if I got the gtx I would wait until there was a price drop if there will be any

No it will be alot faster to use 1x 150GB Raptor. That should end your search for a primary OS/Program HD. $300 is well worth it.

I would buy a 7800GT now and wait for the next generation, a GTX would just be a waste.

I would also consider the A8n32SLI deluxe, since it outperforms all other 939 boards. Its probably only $50 more than your DFI.

I would also get Value RAM.

did you not read that I am overclocking? Value ram, and asus, you must be kidding- not to mention the asus board will have a meltdown in the case i'm using since it would be inverted.

I will keep the 150gb raptor in mind then.

You gotta love it when someone comes in here asking for advice, and then starts bashing the people who come to offer help.

/piss off

Well I don't know about a meltdown, but the Asus board is best 939 board. Try some reviews or Extremesystems. And Value Ram can be run with a divider with minimal impact to your performance when overclocked. Of course, I assumed you were on a budget, or I would have recommended the Opteron 170 and a SLI 7800GT and Crucial Ballistix.

I thought so too at one point (i've got a raptor II in my rig) but it isn't faster, infact it's not nearly as fast as the 150Gig. Check out storage review's forums, there was a thread on it a few days back.

The value ram comment isn't all that far out, RAM doesn't have much effect on performance for A64 systems. From worst case CAS3 ram to the top of the line is a mere 10% difference. Getting decent CAS2 RAM gets you most of that performance.

heatpipes + upsidedown = 70* + temps

I will probably end up with a 7800gt for now but the 165s OC just as well as the 170s with good steppings o no need to spend the extra $100 there.
