Hello all~
I'm currently shopping around and doing reaserch on an upcoming computer build. I have most of my stuff planned out, but i would love all coments. This computer will be used for gaming plus schoolwork, word processing, and web surfing. After every part i gave a reason why i chose it, so please feel free to point out where i am wrong. Thanks again!

Case: Antec SX1040BII
---a big case that comes with the antec name, good air cooling, and a 400w psu ~ $95

Processor: AMD Athlon64 3000+
---A good processor that doesn't cost too much. I'm leaning towards the newcastle core, though i don't know much about the differences. Also not sure about the differences between the CO and CG reveisions ~$165

Motherboard: Chaintech VNF-250
---Cheap, powerfull, supports everything I want. ~$80

RAM: 1GB Corsair 2.5 CAS PC3200 Valueram
---Cheap RAM with good performance ~$150

Graphics Card: eVGA GeForce 6800 128mb
---good graphics without breaking the bank. Also has eVGA's step-up program so i can (hopefully) upgrade to a GT in a couple months) ~$280

Hard Drive: Seagate 160Gb SATA 7200 RPM
---three words - five year warranty. ~$105

Sound Card: Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS Gamer
---about same price as an OEM audigy2 ZS, but with a couple of full versions of good games. ~$80

Speakers: Logitech Z-5300's
---THX certified sound for cheap. ~$111

Optical Drives: Nu Tech DDW-082 8x DVD burner and a random 52x CD-RW
---dvd burning for teh first drive, the sccong is there mainly as a seccong cd-rom reader. ~$70 combined

Thats all! thank you for taking time to read my (long) post, and all comments appreciated, especially about the processor. ~Sam

I've seen some 200gig IDE drives for this much money or a tad less in the FS/FT forums. Just in case you want more storage. ;)

I'm not a big fan of Chaintech.

1. See yesterday's rant thread about how awful NuTech DVD burners are.
2. Get a DVD-ROM drive for the reader not another burner, since pure readers seem to have fewer issues with copy protected game discs, and also are better than some burners at reading DVDs.

ditch the SATA and use the extra $$ get a bigger IDE harddrive, I have a seagate 120GB SATA and its not any faster than IDE harddrives.

Also, where are u getting ur Audigy 2 ZS for $80?
