So, I just bought:

Athlon64 3000+ Venice Rev. E S939

DFI Lan Party NF4-Ultra

Both from monarchcomputer with free full version of Far Cry and HL2 for $292.89 final price.

OCZ 1GB "Value VX" DDR400 from NewEgg for $117.78 final price.

Seagate Barracuda 120GB SATA 8MB cache also from NewEgg for $94.15 final price.

Now I am torn between the eVGA 6600GT ($163 final price from monarch computer) and the Sapphire Radeon X800 128MB PCI-E ($202.18 final price from XtremeGear)

I plan to overclock the shiite out of this system, so which do you guys think is a better fit for my system?

This is not a "which is better" flame war thread, it's a "Do you think the X800 is worth the extra $40 for this system" thread.

Thanks!

Really? Why? Just asking cause the eVGA is dirt cheap and the users on this board have given good reviews. I'm open to all angles though...

Why, MSI has shotty quality control. EVGA is much better in that department. What It all boils down to is Quality and the bundle; especialy since they all perform with in 2% or less of each other, there is no differance really.

The X800 Has 16Pipes and the 6600 only has 12. Easy Pick: Hands down, ATI

That link you gave me was for a regular X800, not the X800XL.

If I could get an X800XL for $226, there would be no choice, but the cheapest I can find it is $279 via pricewatch.

So, is 20% worth $40???

Try using multiple price engines, you will get a better deal that way. Froogle.google.com is one of my favorites.

That is something that YOU need to decide...I would personally spend the extra, but it may not be worth it to you

I agree, $40 is a bargain. It 2/3 the cost of a new game at $60. So freaking cheap for such gains in performance.

EDIT: Why not add another POLL to the top of the page, this one asking if you should spend the extra $40 for the better part?

Also Choose ATI because "MOST" games are writen for DirectX and ATI always performs better with DirectX when compaired to nVIDIA.

It is an industrial office complex in oregon.

That is correct.

Also, eVGA is a great brand. There is nothing wrong with it. As I said in your previous post, you need to look at a few benchmarks and see what games each accels at. If you play many OGL games (Doom3 and any mods thereof) the nVidia may be slightkly better. If yoou play DX gamexz (HL2/CS:S and subsequent mods), the ATI will be much better.

Overall the ATI will be faster, but you need to decide if it is worth it.

Umm doesn't the x800 have 12 pixel pipelines?

ALso, did you notice the benches where the x800 performed 1-20% better than the 6600gt (except, of course, in Doom 3)

When I said "is 20% worth $40" I was referring to the 6600GT vs. X800, not X800 vs. X800XL.

The cheapest I can find an X800XL is $279 and that is too much.

The eVGA 6600GT is $163 with shipping and tax. The Sapphire Radeon X800 128MB is $202.18 with shipping and tax.

I know you're asking about vide, but put a few $$ in and get a bigger HD. The Seagate 7200.8 SATA 200GB is only about $115 at newegg. $20-25 more for 80GB, you'll thank yourself later.

I'm pretty sure he already bought his HD.
