People, I have a question regarding CAS2 vs CAS3.

When you are at your peak OC, do you switch to CAS3 to allow you to go up a bit more?

I have CAS2 mushkin and my latency is set to 2, but I am wondering if I set it to 3 will it let me go up a bit further.

Right now I can only get 1026 from my 800 Tbird. I can post way up higher, but win98 craps out.... I figure due to memory problems.

Sorry if this has already been covered.

well im pretty sure it's not your ram. It's the chipset to be exact. What fsb are you runing at right now?? Dont expect much more than 105

Yeah, I did read that the 133 chipset had a limit of 133Mhz, but since it booted up fine, I thought maybe it was OK, but then again, I haven't reviewed all the math.

Right now I have 9.5 x 107/35 and rock solid.

I tried 10 x 100/33 and I couldn't get that to boot consistenly into Win98, so I thought it might be memory since this setting was right at 133 Mhz.

I am wondering if I am at the top, but also wondering about other BIOS settings. ie. CPU Drive Level? I am using 2, but wonder what 3 would do. I am currently testing memory perf as I have read that Fast maybe faster than Turbo for a RAM setting.

If you check out the April 2000 Anandtech Memory roundup, you will notice that the Mushkin rev 2 tops out at 146 mghtz at both cas 3 and cas 2. Check your memory bus speed with SSandra.

So, I guess what your saying is that due to several factors, I am at my peak in terms of bus speed. which I realize, but my quandry was why couldn't I get 10 x 100/33 to work? My feeling here is that I may need to use something besides the pencil trick. Seems people get much better results when using loctite or conductive pen.

Here's what tripping me out. I've tried using 110FSB. It was stable and all but when I download RAR files. It would give CRC error when unraring files. Went back to 100FSB and have no problem.

To me that makes sense. 110 + 37(?) ( I can't remember what the second speed is ) but regardless, when your at 110+xx your way close to the RAM threshold, in my opinion.

But when I try 100+33 x 10, I shouldn't be pushing the RAM limit, nor the VIA 133 limit. So, I am still wondering why I can't use a 10 multiplier... I am guessing I could do better with a better L1 connect.
