I've been mucking around with adding borders to my photos and I can't quite seem to get anything that looks particularly good. I was wondering if you guys could post some inspiration or point me in a place to look.

Thanks.

Edit: Just to clarify, I was thinking about sending out a holiday card this year and I was trying to work in a border that would suit that application. Because most of my photography is really just for myself, I have little experience with borders and stuff.

I hate it when photographers do that. Just screams amateur hackery.

either do some real graphic design or don't bother.

A graphical border is probably fine for a Christmas card, particularly something that fits the theme of the photo, but I hate it when people do it with "normal" pictures.

Sorry, I didn't mean anything crazy, just adding a solid black border or something. What I've tried looks tacky and stupid, so I was wondering if the tackiness is a function of the border itself or just my inability to properly do one.

Either way, I'll experiment and I 100% agree that borders are stupid on photos that you're posting online or trying to sell.

For a digital image, no no no no no HELL no.

For an image in something like a Christmas card, well it really depends on what else is on the card.

As for Christmas cards, they can be had with or without borders. Personally, I never bother with borders.
