Unless I encounter something completely wrong with this setup, that's the components I'll be using. I was going to go for the Asus A8V-E Deluxe, but I read here that it was a total POS. Strangely enough, the ECS KN1 seems to be a better alternative.

This is the second, non-SLI system I was building. I went with the basic Antec PSU that came with the Sonata case since the guy has no wish to start overclocking or adding other components.

PRICES ARE IN CANADIAN DOLLARS

I checked with the seller, it's the 90 nm CPU there.

Everyone here's better informed of the components' reliability and so forth, I was wondering if there were any particular problems for this rig's parts.

Better PSU. Immediately.

I've never heard of that motherboard before, so I can't comment.

Looks like a solid system overall.

Have Antec PSUs fallen from grace around here?

Check out this HD deal in Hot Deals. You might have better luck than the OEM Maxtor. I like Seagates especially -- 5 year warranties.

I would get the DFI Nforce4 ultra over a ECS motherboard anyday.

ECS + Extreme naming = A confused me. ECS to me = Somewhat decent quality board with next to no extra features at rock bottom prices.

ECS boards are given away free at Frys and Outpost with the combo sales they have.

Not anymore. The ECS KN1 Extreme has quite a fair bit of features on it. Really, check out the specs on it. It's not an overclocker's dream board, but it's fairly solid.

By the time I pay for shipping, if Fry's even sells to Canadians, the price'd be about the same.

What. Crap. That PSU is Antec's premium range, and puts out better amps (24A @ 12V) than their 450W cheapo model. It's plenty for a single hard drive system with a 6600GT.

Well he did say basic so I assumed it to be their SmartPower range of PSUs, not the TruePower or NeoPower. Anyways, ECS manufactures low-end boards. Just do some research and u'll see. BTW why don't u get this guys a decent sound card and speakers(if he doesn't have any). sorry, kinda a hate it when people overkill on something and not spend on other things that are also important.

why another PSU??.

a 380 watt Antec PSU is just about the best there is. and more than powerful enough for any normal system.

Where did you read that the ASUS A8V is a POS? I actually laugh at people who mention they can't over clock with chaintech's and ECS's, then blame it on the CPU, while im over 2.6GHz with my A8V.
