Final system configuration

Well, after many discussions on this board (much appreciated), I went ahead and purchased all the parts for the system I'm building. Goals: stability, relatively good speed, keep the whole thing well under $2000. Thoughts?

I am looking at a pretty similar system, I really like your box. I would probably get that if I could find it somewhere where I live, but alas we cannot have everything we want. I say go for it, but I have reconsidered buyin the 3200+ in favour or the 3000+ there is not much difference between the two as far as performance goes to merit a $60 US price increase. Also apparently all new 64 chips will only be featuring a 512 MB cache as opposed to 1 GB because most programs don't take advantage of such a large cache.

Hope this helps.

Next generation ? With al the Athlon64's I have seen in rigs lately, I think its current generation. The R420 will be next generation on Tuesday.....

BTW, nice choices except get Z640 Logitech speakers...

With all that hardware, a 2.1 Inspire seems sort of wimpy.

Agreed, but I have no room for 5.1. If anyone has any suggestions for a good 2.1 system, I'd be glad to hear them.

Sort of. It's more of a "bang for the buck" rig. 🙂 The only thing that was a luxury expense was the extra hard drive: the extra performance I'm going to get isn't incredible, but I've been wanting to mess around with a decent home RAID for a long time.

OK, I have a "regular" PC desk, the center and the two fronts are just behind the keyboard, the rears are above the monitor, and the subwoofer on the floor. Works great ! It will be nice if I ever spread out, but you still sort of get the effect, just up to down.

In that case, you might want to consider ditching the raptors for 2 Hitachi 7K250 drives. They won't be quite as fast but they will be a lot cheaper. In fact, you could probably buy (2) 80GB 7K250 and (1) 160GB 7K250 to use as a back up cheaper than you could get the 2 Raptors.

Just a thought, Either way, it looks like a nice rig.

I thought about it, but I'm more interested in performance bang for the buck. I don't download a lot of files and what I work with isn't large (except for a few games) so 76 GB will more than suit me. I have a hard time filling 40.
