You're supposed to link to the original thread. I hadn't seen it.

why should we do the work the op should have done in the 1st place?

My search for porcupine turned up one thread about Muzak and nothing else.

I'm curious, thetxstang - how'd you find it?

I simply searched for "porcupine dog" in all threads older than 90 days. It's the third one from the top that appears in the results list.

Dumb followup question then - does the standard search ignore archived threads?

Yes.

iirc, it's not a repost if it's in the archives. then it's old enough that bumping the old thread doesn't work and people might not have seen it.

yes, i make up the rules as i go along.

It was in the archive. If we have to search that before every post we might as well call all threads reposts.

The search function defaults to "Current Messages (past 90 days)." You have to manually switch the option to "Archived Messages (older than 90 days)."

It's okay, I didn't notice it the first few times I performed a search here.

My dog got in to a little incident with a porcupine once, few years ago. She got 3 quills stuck in her snout and that was it for messing with the porcupine, she had enough. I cant believe that dog would continue to go after the porcupine like that...insane.

You'd be surprised at how many dogs are stupid enough to go after porcupines repeated times... My vet mentioned that he has a few dogs who regularly are brought in to him to have quills removed.

p.s. If you ever have a dog with quills, and none are through the eyes or inside the mouth, they're relatively easy to remove. Cut the quills in half before pulling them out though.

When I was a little kid, about 20 years ago, I went to a museum with ancient Egyptian artifacts. Inside one of the tombs was a mummy covered with rose pedals, frankincense, saffron, cardamom, figs, honey, cypress, wine, and a picture of this dog.

That's how old this picture is.
