Final Salute - Marines stand watch (photos)

It might just be the hopeless romantic in me, but the situation just seems to beautiful. Its sad that someone like her had to lose something she loves.

Have some decency.

It's not indecent to point out that some woman needing to sleep next to the casket of her dead husband, while apparently watching TV, WHILE have Marines stand guard over her, is a little weird and creepy. It doesn't mitigate her loss at all.

Plenty of people (read: almost everyone) lose loved ones unexpectedly and manage to grieve without needing to spend a night next to their dead body.

Isn't this a couple of years old? I know I've seen it some time ago here on the forums.

Couldn't help but go through the rest of the photos and found some dates. Most of those shots are from pre-2006.

Not only is this a repost, but you have the indecency of not reading the blurb the second time it was posted.

Aw man, I'm so sorry! I hadn't realized she was listening to a laptop! That doesn't look like watching a TV at all in a badly lit, low-resolution photograph. That's not creepy at all then! You're right, that niggling mistake completely invalidates my opinion that what she's doing is completely morbid and odd! I think everyone should have marines stand guard over her while she sleeps next to her dead husband in a coffin, it'll be the new version of going to a wake! Thank you for showing me the light, sir!

dude...it IS creepy. I have all the respect in the world for fallen soldiers and their family, but that is just odd.

Yea, she could have at least let the Marines go...standing watch while she sleeps next to her husband's casket is a bit odd no doubt.

I mean sadly numerous Marines have passed away in Iraq, and I don't think there's been another case like this..

At least she didn't want to sleep in the coffin with him...

You can bash me, but your the one you didn't even bother to read the 150 words below the picture. Sleeping near the coffin might be a little creepy, but everyone has their way of saying goodbye. Who are we to criticize her form of grieving?

I agree with you there, but to request that the Marines stand watch while she slept for a few hours...come on, that's almost not right. As if you were forcing people to grieve with you.

It is an old story, but an extremely touching one. Poor woman 🙁

Marines do some pretty weird stuff. Now, this would probably qualify under that category. But most people don't realize that those supposed 'weird' things are just about the most honorable acts ever committed by just about anyone.
