As long as the case has enough bays and allows for decent airflow, it doesn't really matter which one you go with. If you expect to move it lot, aluminum might be a good idea. Otherwise, any choice is really just a matter of cosmetics.

Go with a full tower case not a mid tower. Will be easier to get all the cables organized.

do you know anything about the xaser cases if they allow good quantity airflow, and which would be better the 64 3400 or the 64 FX 51

Antec SLK3700AMB (not the newer DQE) is a great case for drives because it has 5 HD bays with a small vertical gap between each dirve (drives aren't touching each other) and you can mount a 120mmx25mm intake fan to blow air directly onto the drives. There is also a 120mm exhaust fan.

My server is in this case with 5 HDs and a celeron 1.3a using the 350 watt PS it comes with, but since your system has an A64 FX51 and 5900 Ultra you might need to replace it with a 380 - 430 watt supply instead.

What's the system for? Just gaming? For future reference, ECC RAM is only really suggested if you're doing "mission critical" stuff. Memory errors are extremely rare. And when they do happen, you usually just have to reboot at worst.

I am going to use a Antec true power 550w supply no matter what, I was wondering the fans you were mentioning are they harddrive fans or just regular fans

I am a computer engineering major, with a minor in computer science I just havent really had much time to read up on stuff, and there are so many cases and choices out there it can get mind numbing, and I also got a really good deal on the ECC ram, and if I went with the 64 FX 51 I would need it cause you can only use registerred ram with it

You're freakin rich! :Q

As for a case, get a full tower like the Antec/Chieftec/Chenming clones

So my selection would go as follows

Antec True Power 550w PS
Logitech Cordless MX Duo
2x1024 Ifineon Technologies PC 3200 ECC ram
4x250GB Maxtor SATA HDD
PNY Geforce FX 5900 Ultra
Lite-on 8X Dual Drive
Memorex 48x24x48 CD-RW
30" NEC LCD display
and the debate is between the case
and the 64 FX 51 or the 64 3400

Amazingly the 3000+ performs almost identically to the 3400+, as shown here. Save yourself $200, or spend it on a video card to match the CPU... the ATI 9800 XT.

Agreed...

I don't recommend cases. Mainly because, as someone said, it is personal choice. The Xaser, for example, I find hideously ugly. I would say go for a big tower of some sort. Also, in light of your apparant wealth, if you really want a terabyte of storage, you need to add another drive. A 80GB will do. ;)

250GB drive = a formatted 232.83GB (Difference in how manufacturers label drives and the software sees them). So, 232.83GB x 4 = 931.32GB. Slap in a 80GB drive (formatted capacity of 74.51GB)

232.83GB * 4 + 74.51 = 1005.83GB.

That's what I would do if I had that kind of money. Be the first guy on my block with 1TB of storage ;) Of course, i don't have that kind of money... ;)

Well, if you reeeally want to get technical, a terrabyte is 1,024 gigabytes. So he'd need a 120 GB HD instead of an 80. ;)

Ok so I like the 9800 XT, so the PNY is out, I would go with the FX mainly more for the motherboard even though the multipliers are unlocked on the FX, what type of Full Tower would you suggest because I need something to keep everything cool, unless I went to water cooling, but I dont want to start messing around with that.

Right you are! That was pretty silly of me to miss, LOL.
Technically couldnt I go with 2x500 and a 250
Technically, yes. If there were a 500GB hard drive available... AFAIK the largest current hard drive available is Maxtor's 300GB model, which is probably best as a storage drive, with it's 5400 rpm speed.

Coolermaster ATC-201.

Four HDD bays directly behind 2 80mm front intake fans. Also 2 3 1/2" floppy drive bays that can have HDD's, and 4x 5 1/2" bays (which could be fitted with hard drive coolers if you needed even more space, which I doubt).
Also 2x80mm exhaust fans, and the possibility of a window with extra fan on the case, and a sliding motherboard tray (incredibly useful if you ever want to make changes to the components, like replacing cards etc).

I have one of the earlier revisions of the case, and it's a sweecase. All aluminium as well.
