Made another post last week thinking I would get the money needed to buy the rig I wanted, but life just spins a bit out of control sometimes. Needless to say, I finally got everything I need together to actually buy my build this week. Decided to go skylake and do a bit of a red/black/white theme. I already have a ssd and I have OS covered. Budget was $1400 MAX using primarily newegg. Please respect my preferences.

Also I'm looking for a nice keyboard and mouse also so if anyone has suggestions please post.

I like the Microsoft 4000 ergonomic keyboard. It's comfortable after hours of use, and I've never had any pain in my wrists using it. As for a mouse, I'm using a Logitech G502. I've had the mouse replaced twice since 2012, though. It started as a red-lit G500, then it was a blue-lit G500, I think. Now it's a blue G502. I'm pretty pleased with Logitech's service, if not so much with the lifespan of the mice. However, the returns have been flawless, with the 3-year warranty. The spot where the cord goes into the mouse seems to have been beefed up from past models, so hopefully the current G502 lasts a long, long time.

I might spend a little more on the monitor for 144 Hz, since you're planning on a 970.

I actually agree on the keyboard. I've been using them for years and love them.

I like trackballs myself and use a Logitech Wireless, but that is personal, like the keyboard.

That and I'd upgrade the HDD to a Black. I doubt it's much more.

I like G Skill ram myself, not sure over all you might do better that that CPU wise these days, but I haven't rebuilt from scratch in awhile.

It needs a SSD for the OS I'd think, even a small one.

*edit* my bad, I kinda missed the part where you said you had the SSD covered.

Probably not your thing, but these are nice little cases.

I used it for my HTPC.

Messed up with what kind keyboards I wanted. I was looking more for a gaming keyboard/mouse, both, for under $175
