Final Fantasy XIV ( 14 )

Did a search and didn't see this up, so thought this would do.

What are your expectations. Do you plan on playing this MMO? Why or why not?

So far it looks like a complete ripoff of 11 to me, and feels like there will be lots of cursing and negativity involved at the grinding, item hunting.

My experience with 11 was 500+ days worth logged into that game.

From what I heard (my brother played, I never did), FF XI was a super grindfest. If XIV is the same, I won't play.

From what I understand, FFXI's problem wasn't grinding (what magical MMORPG doesn't devolve into that?), but rather that it was impossible to solo effectively past a certain level - and groups weren't too easy to put together. I heard some of the later expansions tried to remedy this, but the system was a little too mature to alter dramatically.

Not to worry, I'm sure FFIX will be channeling WoW in a serious way.

Is this your opinion or are you in the beta?

Hell yeah I'm going to play. I only got to around level 35 or so, but I LOVED FFXI. Awesome lore, awesome community, I had an amazing time just hanging out with linkshell friends and just exploring Vana'diel.

This is just my opinion after playing, looking at the XIV site and meeting Sage Sundi and Hiromichi Tanaka in person at one of the events.

There has been very little info released, but what has been released alludes to much more focus on casual gameplay.

I'm guessing your preconceptions are wrong.

(FWIW, I've been reading all the news that has been put forth since the title was announced last year)

If they had just taken XI and made it so you could solo at least some content, I would still be playing it(only made it worse that for some time you couldn't even pick what server you were playing on).

Nah, no thanks. I'm done with MMO's. I just can't put any time into MMO's and eventually they feel more like work and not fun.

But 500+ days in FFXI? Holy crap.

Haven't heard anything about the game other than that its being developed. I am a big fan of FF series but the grind of FFXI was waaaaayy too much for me. Even MMO's that are considered to have relatively low levels of grinding are usually too much for me. I have little hope that FFXIV will be playable for me even though I really want to play it and enjoy it.
