Final Fantasy XIII Extended Trailer

sigh

this means im gonna have to shell out money for a PS3 because this game looks absolutely sick.. like always 🙁

Versus is supposed to be like a dark, realistic Kingdom Hearts. It's not even in the same universe as the main game.

The protagonist lives in the last country with a crystal, and all the other countries (basically stuck in the dark ages) are trying to invade and steal the crystal.

Versus looks a lot sweeter than the main game 😱. The character in there actually reminds me of this character type I created a bit ago for this super nerdy RP story thing... he could control particles/energy and form barriers, swords and just about anything. Talk about a power that you wouldn't mind having :Q!

So it's a different game from FF 13? Well that's a confusing naming strategy.

Anyway these look good. I really like the sci-fi/modern settings. I hope they come out soon. The PS3 really needs more good RPGs out - RPGs are one of the things the Playstation line really excels at. The only one that I know of (that's worth playing anyway) is Folklore and I'm almost done with it.

Yeah, if it weren't for the "crystal" thing, they probably could have made a new IP out of it.

From what I hear, you're wrong about that. Same universe, but that's all the games have in common. Kind of like how FFXII and Tactics both take place in Ivalice.

I'm going off of what was said on another forum:

Final Fantasy Versus XIII is the second PS3 title of the Fabula Nova Crystallis, and shares the FNC mythology, but is set in a different universe with no other connections. It's being developed by Nomura and his KH team, and, in his own words, is basically the result of Nomura wanting to do a game that is completely the opposite of Kingdom Hearts. Versus is the Latin word, not to be confused with the English one, and means "to go against", because it is sort of the anti-FF. It's a gritty, modern Action RPG, and has elements of Shakespearean tragedy, mob drama, and ultraviolence.

If you look at the premise for both of them, the worlds don't match up at all.

Main game:
Has a city in the sky called Cocoon--rest of the world is called Pulse. Both places have crystals. Fantasy/futuristic setting

Versus:
Modern-day country (city?) with only crystal left in the world. Rest of world stuck in the middle ages.

It makes more sense that they only have the crystals in common and that the universes are completely separate. They were probably mistaken (what I read) in thinking they were going to be in the same universe instead of merely having the crystal theme to them. I apologize for any confusion I may have caused for giving wrong information.

I always thought "versus" in English means "to go against" 😕. I mean, think Street Fighter... Ryu vs Ken.. doesn't mean they're having a tea party! Means they're going against each other!

Silly people.

wow.... both look fantastic but Versus is just absolutely stunning. When these games get released... I may have to take some "vacation" time

Let me know when they show footage of the actual game and not CG. 😛 I'm not the biggest FF fan but I really enjoyed FF12 and hope that this new one is patterned after that game. I would say that FF12 is the FF I enjoyed the most since the excellent FF6 on the SNES.

I really hope they go back to the old school battle system. I love turn based fighting with well defined character classes and a limited amount of characters so that I don't have to choose who's in my party.

How did you get used to that battle system? All those lines going every which way drove me nuts. I miss the old system 🙁

Wow, i graduate in June(college) so hopefully I'll get me a HDTV and PS3 then too 🙂

I also hope at least one of these titles use the FF12 battle system. At first i did not like it at all, but after beating the game it really grew on me and i think which such a system more gamers will give JRPGs a try. But either method i will be happy.

About CG or not, well in the OP's movie there is spot where the girl is fighting and some HP/MP bars where on the screen. The graphics still looked like CG though, so who knows, only time will tell.

heh..I got used to it pretty quickly. Sorta reminded me of Knights of the Old Republic and I applaud square-enix for trying something different instead of the typical jrpg menu system that every game seems to have. I also loved the FF Tactics/Vagrant Story style world too (unless it IS the same world..I forget).

It's the same world - Ivalice.

I'm in the opposite camp. I love the old school turn-based battle system. I can't stand the FF12 battle system. I quit it after a few hours.

I'd say it took me about 8 hrs of full game play to get used to the system. I just rebooted and did redid it all in 3 hrs lol.

These trailers look pretty stunning. Thank god they dont come out for another year, gives me more time to save up for a PS3, and perhaps during that time, the price will come down.

these games are the only reason i would consider a ps3 so far. i've always been jealous of the ff games on the playstation. i just hate sony so much i dunno what to do
