Anyone going to get this? I've got this pre-loaded. At 17.9GB it's a significantly smaller download than the 59GB of Final Fantasy XIII.

Also "supposedly" this time it will have options for resolution above 720P. I don't know why FFXIII-2 already has custom resolutions yet there still isn't a patch for FFXIII owners except to run GeDeSaTo...but I digress. Anyone getting this? :D

Possibly if it's cheap. Maybe when I get a 390x so I can get some vsr (or DSR if I get 980ti but I doubt that).

I love the final fantasy series.

It's $17.99 to preorder right now on steam, it's not exactly going to break the bank.

They'll collect the three games.

Then the collection will get cheap.

That's when I'll pick them up. I already own XIII on PS3, I'm in no hurry.

FF6 was the last time I had a good time with a FF game sadly...FF7 was great too.
Never tried FF9 but heard good things about it.

But from 10 and beyond I just couldn't get into it anymore...

I don't know about 13-2. I'm trying to play 13 right now and am encountering two major drawbacks:
1) The game is essentially a movie. There's about 5-10 minutes of "gameplay" in between 10 minute cutscenes. The "gameplay" consists of running down a predetermined path and then running into a few easy battles. The story is slightly more interesting then 'meh' but it's not actually much of a game; and
2) The controls are the worst controls I've ever used in a computer game. They did a console port and made no effort to adjust controls. K/m combo is pretty much unusable.

If 13-2 is MOTS then count me out.

13-2 was actually a great game. It took the battle system from 13 and made it better. The story was 'somewhat' improved as well, but it didn't have the linear 25-hour 'intro' like 13 (thank god).

The time-travel and shard collection was actually a LOT of fun. The story was by far the weak part, but it was 'OK'. Game mechanics were a BLAST though.

Don't get me started on FF: LR though.... TERRIBLE :(

thats been a growing problem with every iteration of Final Fantasy.

First one had single box dialog and they never wasted any time.
They slowly started getting more and more cinematics, then with the CD they were able to use whole movies. And its become more invasive every year.

I hate it.

At least nowadays they sometimes let you skip the vids. FF7 did not and could have used such a feature.

I don't purchase things if I don't intend on playing them for awhile.

I'm not a steam collector like a lot of users on this forum that have 100+ games.

I have about 10-15 games on steam and I've beat most of them. Bioshock Infinite is next and I still have Divinity Original Sin to play as well(My brother's game).

No rush to purchase a game I won't play for a year.

pretty much. 9 was really good, though. I played through 10, but thought it was mostly terrible. everything on rails for the first time. absolutely terrible.

I couldn't finish 11. I decided then that those games are being made for a very different audience now.

11 isn't one that a person "finishes," is it? It's an MMO.

I never cared enough about the MMO versions to look into them much at all.

A person who doesn't hoard games just to "own them"?

I only buy what I intend to play. Only games I haven't played were ones I got for free with my graphics card or from free steam/gog giveaways.

Just who in the hell do you think you are? All reasonable and level headed and showing restraint when it comes to needlessly adding to your game library. Pfft. Screenshot or it didn't happen. :Colbert:

144 to be exact not including DLC..but then again I've been on Steam since it started. It's also quite easy to drive numbers up if you make a point to enjoy the Summer and Xmas sales...which should hopefully be coming soon :)

As to the topic at hand, in spite of wanting to buy it I skipped FF13 PC because of the DRM scheme that goes beyond the normal Steam login that I read about before the FF13 release. Unless I read that FF13-2 is avoiding that I guess I won't buy this one either.

DRM is fine, but double dipping is not. I'm specifically avoiding Uplay for the same reason.

What makes you think I wasn't on steam since it started?
I played CS so been here since the "dark ages"...
God, the days when friends list simply didn't work.

What you mean by DRM scheme?
I don't mind "double dipping" (if you mean reselling a game again) because chances are I didn't play it on console so if I get it on PC I consider it the "Real release". People cried about GTA 5, but I mean, I was NEVER playing that in non HD. If it wasn't native 1080p then it wasn't real. The real release of GTA 5 is when it comes out for PC, and even then, it's when modders are done with it. Then I'm ready for GTA 5.

Well, you called us Steam collectors as if it were some sort of negative thing. I don't go out of my way to buy on Steam. I also shop at Matrix Games, Origin, and GOG. If you only have 10-15 games on Steam in all those years it means you don't buy many games or maybe PC isn't your primary platform. In the past few years that have been very few PC games that either didn't require Steam or are on other digital platforms. Steam has been operating for 11 years now so building up a large collection doesn't require much effort. I tend to buy games in 10-20 blocks over the holidays for about $50 :).

What I mean by "double dipping" DRM is the practice of using a DRM platform such as Steam and then requiring an additional DRM platform such as Uplay. At least some of the recent Final Fantasy releases on Steam required Square Enix accounts and activation outside of Steam. When GTAIV PC came out it had one of the last offensive versions of Securom which was removed later.

I'm not anti-DRM; however, jumping through one hoop should be adequate. This is especially true for titles that also require logging into Steam IN ADDITION to using their respective software.

damn, my "unicorn" was meant to be a compliment, with a semi-humorous twist.

Point being, most of us are helpless slaves when it comes to bargains--we purchase $40+ games for $10 or $5 when they go on sale, because that is just goddamn insane deal type of stuff.

It reaches a point, soon enough, that you have this harem of games that you may have acquired at bargain prices, but have no time to play at the moment. Eventually...maybe. But who knows.

Either way, it's either a good thing for enjoying bargains, or it's some sort of sickness.

Those 2 or so of us that first responded to your comment, were suggesting that you have some sort of inhuman resolve to resist the allure of a "great deal!" and adequately budget your time/money in some sort of reasonable manner...something that 98% of us lack.

it's a compliment.

so...why so serious?

:hmm:

You summed it up perfectly.

When I was a teen and had no money, I pirated the crap out of diskettes. Tons and tons and tons of disks. It'd be the odd-game that I'd actually play. It just that act of collecting; maybe the gene that expresses itself for people to collect ornamental plates -- only for video games.

Now, as an adult, I think that "collection" mentality has re-surfaced - only legitimately - with Steam. "Ah hell, it's only $7. I'm sure I'll put some time in it" ( never happens. )

My Steam collection is in that 250 game range; realistically, it should be in the 15-20 range.
The good thing about Steam collection is it isn't physical and you don't pay the "throw it in the garage" tax.
