final fantasy XI -- do you really need a radeon 9000+?

I can't find a decent forum for the game, so I thought I'd ask my good friends here.

Someone gave me the game, and I went through the trouble of installing and creating my character, but once I log in it gives me a little loading bar in the bottom right, then I can see a glimmer of a life bar in the middle of the screen, but soon afterwards it's just a black screen with only a cursor.

Then I just alt-tab out to get the game to crash.

I've got a radeon 8500LE, i think, and am not particularly interested in upgrading for the game. Am I out of luck here, or do I just need to jerk around with video card/game settings?

I've got a ATI Radeon 8500 128MB video card and FFXI runs perfectly at 1024x768 32bit. I have the Cat 3.9 drivers installed and Everything in the drivers and the game are set to max. I do have that problem though when I hit alt tab it crash's. But i never do that normally.

Make sure you have newest drivers, any game updates, and windows updates.

yah your 8500 should be fine for the game
