Final Fantasy X/X2 HD

I know there's the SD vs HD thread, but this is about more than that.

First off, is anyone else as excited as I am about this? FFX is quite possibly my favorite JRPG and definitely one of my top games ever. I could play it over and over and never get bored (I had an entire PS2 memory card filled with different playthroughs).

I already have both the Collector's and Limited Edition pre-ordered for the PS3. I'll pick up the Vita version eventually, but it's just a standard edition (for now), so meh. I would have just gone with the Collector's Edition but man that Limited box art is sweet. These will go nicely with my FFX and FFX-2 black label ps2 games, FFX Strategy Guide, FFX-2 Limited Edition Strategy Guide, sealed copies of the PlayStation Magazine with FFX on the cover (all 3 different covers) and sealed copy of the Limited Edition FFX cover for EGM. I have some others but I don't remember them. Considering getting just a normal version of it for the PS3 to play on instead of opening my Collector or Limited ones...decisions decision.

DUMB IDEA, NEED TO LOOK AT THAT ART!

They're finally bringing the International versions, which is great. I've played it via emulator but I'm glad to see an actual release for it.

I'm tired, and done getting myself excited about this; I wish the release wasn't an eternity away still.

I'm more excited by Bravely Default.

None of the "modern" FF games really do it for me. I mean Ill pick them up and play them, 100% them even, but still. Ni no Kuni was the last RPG that got me feeling as magical and enchanted as Final Fantasy used to with 4, 5 and 6.

X didn't really cut it. I waited the whole game for that pivotal emotional scene for it take off and it never really happened. The closest it ever came was Tidus freaking out when he finds out about Yuna while in Al Bhed Home. And that scene was all of 10 seconds then it died and threw you back to the the game with no momentum. It had its subtle moments and I liked Aurin but it was too easy to fall out of the zone and find myself playing just to finish it and get it out of the way.

It was also the first time in the series that they copped out with the airship and over world and that is a franchise changing stigma and blame that X will always be marred by.

That said also have both editions ordered, and currently catching up in XIII-2 before Lightning Returns hits.

The fabula nova crystallis world and mythos is slowly growing on me though. Its sad that I have to get my knowledge from sources outside the game to appreciate the circumstances in the game rather than by being immersed in the game world.

I'm also finishing up XIII-2 before Lightning Returns.

Also excited for Bravely Default, but FFX has that spot in my soul. The lake cinematic will forever be in my mind.

Final Fantasy X is by far my favorite FF game, and I also have it pre-ordered.

I am definitely looking forward to it, X-2 not so much.

Well, not sure if I'd call myself super excited about it. I am looking forward to it. I was actually thinking of replaying the game, when they announced the remake, so seems like I've been waiting quite some time to play it now.

I am slightly more interested in the ToS remake which comes out a month later, though.

Looking forward to it as well. Blitzball gooooooo!

That said, I really need to stop playing Madden and get to finishing up the plethora of RPGs I have laying around..

Feb going to be nice for games. 2-3 PS4 games, new Wii U game finally in Donkey Kong, and lots of RPGs. FF X HD (?), Lightning Returns, Tales of Symphonia Chronicles, Bravely Default, etc. Two are remasters but still.

Maybe - I played it 10 years ago on a PS2 and 11" television screen so it would be nice to re-experience it; that said, I'm playing FF12 on an emulator right now and save states are just so convenient...plus it looks just as good as the HD versions that we've recently seen of other games.

Yeah, FF12 had a resolution even lower than 10 did to get it running at a stable frame rate. It looked awful on big displays.

11" TV screen ??? Yikes. Was it one of the portable screens that hooked into the back of the PS2?

Final Fantasy X was alright. It had good battle music (it's the music you hear the most after all), but I really, really hated Tidus. We won't even get into his Gilbert Gottfried impression, but rather his incessant whining. I recall people disliking Cloud for rarely talking and being somewhat emo, but honestly... I think I would have preferred that. Why not go a step further and make him a mute like Crono? :awe:

I actually never played FF12 on the PS2. In fact, I was such a fanboy I preordered the collector's edition from gamestop that I still have in shrinkwrap 😀. I couldn't bring myself to open it, and last year I bought a second hand copy of ff12 for 5 bucks 🙂

google shows FF10 resolution: 512x416, FF12 resolution: 512x448

Get around 8% more horizontal resolution with FF12...

Nope just a tiny CRT that I got from Best Buy back in the day for 30 bucks or something like that. It might not have been 11"...it might have actually been 14", hard to remember these days.

That said the game looked beautiful on it for me...maybe that is why I never thought ffx looked horrible.

Squall was easily the most unlikeable protagonist in an FF game in my opinion. His constant brooding, emo pouting, and total lack of personality made him utterly forgettable . Cloud was light years better in that regard.

Tidus took "annoying" to a whole new level though. Everything about the guy made you grind your teeth.
That was a big part as to why I didn't care for the game, along with the myriad of plot holes and "seriously?!? Wtf!" moments. The multipart Spoony review covers most of these excellently.

Sad thing is the textures on FF12 are excellent when you play with PCSX2 at 1080p. So much detail to be unlocked thats all hidden with an SD screen resolution.
