Awesome. Love X but never got around to playing X-2.

Its got a lame story but they brought back the Job system, and it works really well. You can change in the middle of battle and it doesnt penalize you. Also theres the Mascots which are like super jobs that give you multiple skill-sets.

Alrighty then:

UI is MUCH sharper. Looks great at any resolution. I'm set to 2560x1440 and it looks clean, crisp, and perfectly scaled.

3D stuff looks pretty much the same, just higher resolution.

FMV looks decent, probably higher resolution than before but its not really noticeable.

Transitions are smooth, but keep in mind I installed it on an SSD.

Theres a LOT more voicework than I remember. All those little incidental lines which previously had no sound are now fully voiced.
Audio is excellent, music sounds great. No hiccups or static like I found in the emulator.

Can do a wide range of resolutions just like the previous Windows FF releases. Windowed, fullscreen, borderless.

Not many choices in graphics settings, just High Medium and Low.

Controls are fine with my Xbox compatible controller, the in game hints show the Xbox buttons.

Oh, and they added new features to X-2.

You can now trap enemies. Once you have them you can train, upgrade, and compete with them in arenas.

You can also swap them out with your party members. They dont take commands directly, but follow a passive, assistive, or aggressive doctrine. they can level up, equip accessories, and learn special abilities just like the humans. Also with more time in battle they get smarter about using the best command for the current situation.
You can release monsters when you get tired of looking at them.

Also, there are some humans you can swap with party members, like Brother. He can equip a garment grid and dressphere like the girls.

New dressphere called Festivus.
Its abilities vary depending on who is using it.

I was wrong about video settings. If you hit ESC on the main menu you can change stuff like a normal Windows game.

There are also blanked out buttons for Special Features. I guess I'll have to unlock those.

OK, the special features are accessible while in game, not from the main menu.

You can do things like speed up the game double or quadruple, supercharge the characters in all regular battles, change enemy encounter rate (good for those times you just wanna push thru tedious missions), engage an AI for your girls, and completely hide the UI.

Theres also a cheat menu but its pretty basic and over powered.
Add all skills to all girls, add ALL items except quest related, and give yourself a billion gold.

Kinda overkill but if you are just sick of grinding away its nice to have.

you can use the keyboard and mouse anytime, but they kinda stink.

Would recommend a game pad.

Further notes:

The battle arena can be accessed any time while on the ship.
You can fight with your monsters OR your girls. They gain XP, items, and gold just like normal. In addition to it being more convenient than running around randomly in the woods, you can also pick your opponents. This is nice if you are trying to steal or win a particular item from a rare monster. Or just keep fighting the same thing and eventually it will oversoul and then you've got even better items available.

One last item, but many people will find it important.

The game is fixed at 30 frames per second. I have yet to find any method of unlocking it.

by the way, the new Festivus job is pretty good. Above average stats, and really nice abilities. on Yuna you get some random elemental attacks for a mere 6 MP. One time it cast Firaga 2!!

i was wrong, theres more than one new dressphere.

If you win the Standard Cup monster arena tournament you get a Psychic job. It has lots of nasty magical attacks, all of which are non-elemental. It also has the ability to absorb all 4 elements. Very powerful addition.

Is this worth bothering with if you can already just play the emulator? Who am I kidding, I've owned this game since it came out..and never played it past the ball game thing.

Thanks for the details. The PS2 version has been in my unplayed pile for years now but this sounds like a much nicer version to not get around to playing :)

I need an army of clones to work through my stacks of games.

I want this on PC for better longevity, but I bought it on PS3 at launch. I think I got past Mt. Gagazet in X. Have X for PS2 as well. One of the best combat systems of any FF, in my opinion.

Maybe in a few years, on sale.

Yeah, but less so than a lot of other games.

A 20% discount in the launch window is pretty nice, and the game isn't too expensive anyway.

I just own the remaster already and don't want to buy it again so soon. Had I known it was coming for PC, I would have gladly waited.

I'm trying to play that game XV right now.

There was never a guarantee Windows would get it.
We hoped and prayed and sometimes our prayers got answered.
We got the remade 9, which is quite nice. We got the 3D versions of 3 and 4 which look good and also have the new features.
Still waiting on FF 1 and 2.
And a decent version of 6.

And of course the remake of 7.

Thanks to the audio I now know something I previously did not.

Its CHOcobo.
Not choCObo.

hmmm, I've always pronounced it that way.

Agree--it might be my favorite over all. Rest of the game is somewhat terrible, though. :\
