FF7 was my introduction to the series. I have played origin and anthology. (1,2 and 5,6). I have went on to play the rest of the the series and have completed everyone of the main numbered series except 13-3. When I play a game I try to look at all sides of of the game experience. Some are stronger in combat, story or world building. X brought cringe worthy voice acting. I hope that the remake will keep the main story intact but add new elements so it is interesting to play again.

If I wanted to play the same combat system again then I'd fire up FF7 right now.

Honestly, I don't play a lot of old 3D games, because they look terrible. There's a reason why the game is best played on PC, and that's because there are mods to increase model fidelity (if I remember correctly, battle only). Final Fantasy VI is still rather playable, because it's a good-looking 2D game. The only argument that you could make against it is that it could be hand-drawn easily during these days, which is kind of what they (unfortunately) did in the mobile remake. I'm probably one of the people that has no problem with HD remakes of (some) games.

As for an action battle system, if Final Fantasy XV has shown me anything, it shows me that Square-Enix can't implement an interesting action battle system in Final Fantasy. If I remember correctly, the purpose of using that battle system in FFXV was for a more involved battle system, but you still press the same button almost the entire time. :\ It can make boss battles a bit more interesting given you have to move around, but now you also have to do the same for bland random encounters, which previously just required you to hold accept. :p Now, if we had a deeper system more like Devil May Cry, then I'd probably be more interested. However, I don't know how something like that (i.e. a single character, not a party) would work in Final Fantasy VII anyway.

You seem to be forgetting what the name of this is going to be. It's not FF 15, or 16, or 17. It's ff7 remake. If you don't want to play ff7, then I'd suggest you probably not play the remake either? Imo, it's ok if they want to refine things, tweak things, even change things up here and there, mechanics or plot wise. And, of couirse, updating the graphics is great. But, if they were to throw out the battle system wholesale and replace it an action rpg, in my mind, it probably shouldn't be called ff7 anymore.

Honestly, after 12, and the 13's, I'm tired of that type of battle system (not that i ever thought they were great anyway). I have no intentions of buying 15. And, if they were to change 7 remakes battle system into one of those, then I'll skip purchasing it as well.

I really liked the first one. The 2nd one sucked (but was made by a different group and was in dev hell). The 3rd one was really good, but all of them got blasted for their combat..which I never understood. I liked the combat. The combat was essentially the same combat from Xenogears with some tweaks.

The first one was great, the 3rd one was great, except the ending was rushed.

The 2nd one, I was not a fan of the character designs, and when I first started playing, the actual combat was kind of hard to puzzle out. When I actual did get a handle on the combat, the game got very enjoyable. There was definately a learning curve, however.

Personally, I wouldn't rank 2 to much lower than 1 or 3.

I'm not forgetting anything. You seem to be agreeing with me. In your opinion its okay that they refine, tweak, and change the mechanics and plot. That is what I'm saying. I said they couldn't drag and drop the same system they had. They need to extend the combat system to justify the AAA budget. Hardly anyone outside of hardcore JRPG fans will want to scroll menus in random battles 10,000 times over the course of the game.

I'm open and curious to what they have planned. I hope its not simply the FF15 combat system. I'm hoping they can come up with something interesting, but I wouldn't bet on it being the same thing is what my point was.
