Final Fantasy VII re-release: For PC

Tweak155

One of those things I'll end up posting in both sub-forums due to the title and it's release state, but Final Fantasy VII is being re-released with some added content.

http://www.finalfantasyviipc.com/en

I searched and didn't find it, but my search skills suck. So hopefully not a repost!

I honestly don't care, as long as it works on my modern PC. I tried for hours and was never able to get the old version to work.

I am sure the modding community will make the needed upgrades to the game. It has a HUGE following.

If Square Enix finally remade FF7, they wouldn't put it out just for PC. I'd actually get a PS3 if that happened.

Here's hoping this version improves the audio. The PC port allowed for AA which did really well for the appearance, but Creative MIDI didn't hold a candle to the original PS1.

I remember playing FFVII first on PC. I remember buying it from this shitty toy store for $10...had a Daikatana ad on the back 🙂

I wish they'd make an XBOX 360 port!!!

This is one of those things that doesn't need to be remade or re-imagined. It just needs to be updated to work on current hardware. FF7 was IMHO one of the most perfect games ever made.
I was never an RPG player and I tried FF7 and was hooked to it. After FF7 I haven't played any other RPG. I've tried a few, but nothing kept me captivated long enough to play more than an hour or so.

same. unless you count kingdom hearts as rpg. which it kind of is. kingdom hearts was a surprise and also a great game.

I loved FF7 at the time but doubt I could play it now unless they made some combat tweaks. There needs to be a way to skip a lot of the animation. Once you've seen leviathan you don't need to see it 1000 more times!

What about Knights of the Round + Mimic? or was it Double Cast? 😱

What exactly are they doing to it? Smells like a desperate cash grab to me since they forgot how to make RPGs after the end of the 16-32 bit era.

Square is just yet another has been that doesn't understand why they are failing today and falls back to perpetually re-releasing the old games that they built their previous reputation on. Just another company gone greedy mainstream that doesn't "get it"; doesn't understand the negativity towards them and can't comprehend the decline of their core fanbase. Quick, release FF7 again! Any new fans they have today are too young to know Square in all its former glory. Ignorance is bliss.

FF7 isn't even anywhere near their best top 5 games they've ever put out. It was actually the start of the decline of the FF series after peaking with FF6.

LOL.

I remember the first time I saw knights of the round. Me and a friend literally went nuts. It was one of the coolest things ever.

Top ten, I'd have to think about it a little harder. But Xenogears, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy V, and Final Fantasy VI would be be on the list before Final Fantasy 7, if the latter even made the list.

FF7 isn't even in the same ballpark of caliber as any of the former as far as depth and story. It was a mini game and CGI wank fest by comparison. Oh and we'll randomly kill someone in the shortest and most emotionless scene possible and pretend we can still do drama and tragedy.

Oh, I did recently replay FF7, within the last 12 months. Did the perfect save file, farmed max stats in the sunken ship and all. Even played it via RGB on a Sony CRT on a real PS1 so it was as perfect as possible. My opinion of it hasn't changed. It's ok but it's still a empty shallow emotionless shell of a Final Fantasy. And what's up with the 15 second ending? That was about the most unepic conclusion of any Square title in history. I still feel cheated after all these years. FF6 raised expectations, and FF7 failed to meet all of them. It has some memorable musical scores though, I'll give it that.

If anything deserves to be remade, it's FF6, CT, and Xenogears. The FFIV remake on DS was excellent.

I tried FF6 but could never get into it. It never hooked me. I need to retry it one of these days.

I do like Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana though. Seiken Densetsu 3 was even better than SoM, IMO.

I actually preferred Legend of Dragoon to FF7, although I still liked FF7.

But yeah, Square Enix hasn't made anything good in FOREVER. What the heck?

<- Played SD3 with full translation patch on a real SNES with a Super Everdrive cart on a Sony PVM CRT monitor via RGB cables and Klipsch 2.1 sound system.

God I could just sit and loop the intro for hours, it's beautiful.

Look to Atlus if you want some current release old school quality JRPGs and not this metrosexual SquareEnix crap. But most of their North American releases are on DS.

I don't know, I'd say the best JRPG DS game I've played is Dragon Quest IX, and that's a Square Enix game.

I just ordered Persona 4 yesterday. I know, late to the party.

After that, I wanted to try Digital Devil Saga.

Anyone else notice the minimum requirements on this thing? seems a lot higher than what was around in 1998/1999.... I wonder?

It's kind of sad to me the number of people who's first contact with a Final Fantasy game, hell even a JRPG, was FF7.

For that reason, I think it's overrated by the majority of people. It's their benchmark. For those of us who had been playing JRPGs for years and years prior, it wasn't the be-all-end-all.

While I still think it's a great game and great RPG, I would say it's probably third best in the series. IV and VI are easily 1 and 2 (almost interchangeably), then 7, and after that, it's a crapshoot...literally.

III I recently played on DS, and I was wholly unimpressed. VERY generic, predictable, and forgettable. V I never got more than 6 hours in, but had an unremarkable story. VIII was pure garbage outside of the graphics. IX, IMO, is one of the most criminally overrated games of the PSX era. Simply awful plot and characters. X was...much the same. Terrible plot loopholes, astoundingly annoying voice acting and characters. And XII, while not bad, was very...bland. Just kind of boring, plot wise and character wise.

So I guess you could say FF7 was the last "great" Final Fantasy game

Oh, and I just learned that Ruby has a special counter attack when he gets under half a million.
It ONLY activates if you use Knights of The Round on him. Never use it, never see it. I've found a lot of articles that recommend Hyper on Cloud and constant use of Omnislash.

I'm playing VI for the first time, and the more I play the more I find it superior to VII.

And I thought VII was a great game.
