<<I've played FF7, but not FF8. I have to agree the rendering does kinda look bad, but I think the thing which causes the most time when porting is coding, not graphic/FMV/audio refinements.>>
What do you think it is then? They literally re-did all the FMVs for the FF8 PC versoin so it'll look sharp and clear even using full screen on a monitor with different res. The downside of the FF8 PC is music, they used MIDI, compare to PSX version's CD/MP3 quality.
<<A better idea would be developing the graphics and FMVs for the system that require the most quality (generally PCs I think), and then downgrading them for PSX, if necesary.>>
You know thats impossible, Square is a Sony partial, they would literally get their ass kicked by Sony if they do that. The other thing is, developing graphics and FMVs in high resolution will take up A LOT more space then they do now. 4 CDs will probably turn into 10 CDs.
<<This may be my PC roots talking, but I feel discriminated against as a PC user. Disenfranchised. I've been denied my right to play FFIX in a timely manner, and by the time it comes out for us, somebody who's already played it on the PSX will spoil the storyline. It's inevitable.>>
While I understand the your eager, I dont understand how it can be a discrimination on Sqaure's part. Im pretty sure they'd like to release the game as soon as they can, but there are always technical obstacles as you know. Yea spoiling storylines suck, BUT, you wont really understand anything until you play yourself. The FF7 stories was spoiled many times before I played it, and I didnt understand it until I finished the game. The FF8 stories are spoiled millions of times, I'd still dont have a clue what it is about, I just have a feeling it's a lot worse than FF7. Overall(character design, story, replay value, battle/magic system), FF7 is the best IMHO.
