The question is: When the hell are they gonna release the PC version? Why haven't they figured out a better way of bringing them out simultaneously so that we don't have to listen to all this crap :|

How can they release the port at the same time? There is just no way.

Easy, develop the engines simultaneously, or at least do both before release. I'd think the bulk of time spent making an RPG would be in the content, not the coding...

They gotta get off their cheap asses and hire a squad of people porting the code to PC while the PSX version is being made. Sure there may be a 3-4 week time delay, but better than the 5-6+ months we have now. Sorry Sony, I will not be a mindless PSX-buying drone.

If I didn't have to travel the whole week last week, I would have beaten the game....right now on disk 3 too.

The game is pretty ok, with good story and nice FMV. But after 4 FF games excluding tactics, the interface, music...etc is getting old. Stuff like Chocobo, all those Summons, magic....etc. I am not saying they are stupid, I know without those stuff, FFIX wouldn't feel like one of FF games. But just getting a bit sick with the same stuff over and over. At this point, I would rather play good RPG games like Star Ocean, Xenogear...etc

But hey, FFIX is still one of the best RPG game out there, go get one copy!!

Now for the one that play it, I am sorta suck on a level and need some of your asssitance.

How da hell do you pass the Kuja Castle in Disk 3. It keep on saying light all the candles and the passage will open. I got to the part where you light up the candles and the bookshelfs shifts up and the you walk thru the glass window to save the game with the moogles and than I don't know what to do anymore. Anyone got to this part yet???

I have never seen a game being ported in less than 3-4 months. Its also very hard to port games that are in progress, if they'd do that all the FMVs will look like sh*t, the graphics and the system will suck, I sure dont want to see a repeat of that FF7 port.

Hey Lxi...I *think* Square is planning on making FF11 (the MMORPG one) release on PS2 and PC at the same time.....

That didn't make any sense. First of all, the reason no game is ported in less than 3-4 months is because their main concern isn't speed, it's money. They'd rather make half their customers wait 3-4 months than hire more developers to port it quicker.

As for the FMV and graphics comment, FMVs would have little do with the actual porting process, and neither would the graphics. At most, the only thing which would suffer would be the graphics engine itself, but they could either spend a little time on it and fix it up, or release an early version and a patch at a later date to fix any problems. Either way, it'd be better than waiting the time we wait for quality FF games.

I really meant to say 3-4 weeks, and that is an impossible time for any ports.

Are you so sure about that? Have you seen the FF7 PC? Did you ever compare FF7 PC to FF8 PC? The FMVs and backgrounds looked like crap in FF7 because they didnt bother to do any refinement to them so they're all 320x240 or something. Look at the FF8 PC again, the FMVs are MUCH better, they spend a lot of time and effort in modifying the FMVs, though the prerendered background scenes still suck but better than FF7's, I'd give them that because there is no way they can redraw all the graphics.

I'd have no problem having FF9 or any FF sequel a month after it comes out on PSX. That's perfectly reasonable.

I've played FF7, but not FF8. I have to agree the rendering does kinda look bad, but I think the thing which causes the most time when porting is coding, not graphic/FMV/audio refinements. A better idea would be developing the graphics and FMVs for the system that require the most quality (generally PCs I think), and then downgrading them for PSX, if necesary.

This may be my PC roots talking, but I feel discriminated against as a PC user. Disenfranchised. I've been denied my right to play FFIX in a timely manner, and by the time it comes out for us, somebody who's already played it on the PSX will spoil the storyline. It's inevitable.

What do you think it is then? They literally re-did all the FMVs for the FF8 PC versoin so it'll look sharp and clear even using full screen on a monitor with different res. The downside of the FF8 PC is music, they used MIDI, compare to PSX version's CD/MP3 quality.

You know thats impossible, Square is a Sony partial, they would literally get their ass kicked by Sony if they do that. The other thing is, developing graphics and FMVs in high resolution will take up A LOT more space then they do now. 4 CDs will probably turn into 10 CDs.

While I understand the your eager, I dont understand how it can be a discrimination on Sqaure's part. Im pretty sure they'd like to release the game as soon as they can, but there are always technical obstacles as you know. Yea spoiling storylines suck, BUT, you wont really understand anything until you play yourself. The FF7 stories was spoiled many times before I played it, and I didnt understand it until I finished the game. The FF8 stories are spoiled millions of times, I'd still dont have a clue what it is about, I just have a feeling it's a lot worse than FF7. Overall(character design, story, replay value, battle/magic system), FF7 is the best IMHO.

If Square wasn't sony's b!tch, I could enjoy FF games sooner, and I understand that that's why most of the suggestions I made above aren't feasable. The only reason I didn't get FF8 is because the time it was released for PC all my friends (who have PSX) said it sucked, and rather than look like a fool and waste money, I didn't get it. This may sound stupid, but I'd have rather bought it and then found out it sucked than not buy it at all.

For those of you that need help with that game or any other games for that matter, go to www.gamefaqs.com

I am on Disc 4, ground zero, and man it is hard!! Too many bosses. FFIX definitely brought back the old Final Fantasy feeling. Good luck all.

Heh... that tells how much you hate spoiling. You'd rather buy it and find out whether it sucks or not than not buy it at all. I know it sucks before I bought it, I didnt liked it at all because I was so into FF7, but I still bought it... for my collection, never started playing.

The only reason Square went to Sony is because Sony had the storage capacity (CD-ROM Vs. Cartridge). Remember, there had never been a Final Fantasy for a non-Nintendo platform before FF7. If Nintendo had even tried to follow through on the N64DD, it'd probably be different.

And isn't FF10 or FF11 also going to be released on the XBox?

Last time I checked SquareSoft is not on Microsoft's list.

I love this game! Had it for about 2 weeks, and am on the very first of disc 3 after about 22 hours of gameplay. About 3 hours of those were me just running around on the world map fighting battle after battle so I could learn all my abilities I had at the time for each character I had.

As for strategies, I would suggest going to Square's own site at www.playonline.com. My brother bought the stragety book, which integrates with that website. He goes step-by-step through that book, and I don't see why. I use it mostly just to see which items will give me what abilities, because I plan on learning every action and support ability I can before I go before the big guy, whoever it may be, even though I've got a pretty good idea now.
