Final Fantasy IV Remake For Nintendo DS

Perhaps we will finally get V and VI, too.

It's not clear if you realize this, but Final Fantasy IV was called Final Fantasy II in the US, and Final Fantasy VI was called Final Fantasy III in the US. So this is a remake of US Final Fantasy II. It was II, III and V that were never released here initially. II came out on the Playstation (along with I in FF Origins) and GBA (with I in FF Dawn of Souls), III just came out on the DS, first time it appeared in the US. And V came out on Playstation (FF Anthology) and GBA (by itself).

So you can play every Final Fantasy game in the main line of games in English right now. 🙂 There's probably some spin-offs that aren't out in the US, but the main line of games is all out here.

Yes, but I didn't bother with them the first time around, and it is a remake (for a portable system, at that), and not just a port.

If I recall correctly, the GBA ports were not done by Square either, but by a third party and have some glitches in them.

The GBA ports were actually quite good. They redrew the backgrounds you see during fights and they looked much better than the SNES versions (IV and V at least; VI looks the same but it was probably the best looking 16-bit game anyway). Plus the translations are much better!

Anyway, the japanese version of the FFIV remake should be out next week...which means an English version is not too far off. I can't wait!

Hopefully this means they'll do a remake every year (FFIII was remade last year; FFIV uses the same engine the FFIII remake does). If so, FFVI DS should come out sometime in 2010.

I loved Final Fantasy 5. I hope they remake that. I wasn't much of a fan of FF6 though... even though people say that was the best... /shrug

THANK YOU! I've been saying that for years about FF6. It was the only Final Fantasy I played in which I just couldn't motivate myself to bother beating it!

I'm very glad I reread this before I clicked post, I read IV as 9 and not 4. FF4 was great. I played it finally for the first time on GBA earlier this year and loved it. Unfortunately I haven't played any of the FF's PS2 generation and later as I haven't owned the proper system.

I wish they'd make these for the PSP as well. I don't want to own both systems.

Well they have I & II for the PSP out already.. So according to what Mugs posted, II on the PSP should be the same thing IV(?)

Actually II for PSP is just that, II. It's the original II, not IV posed as II here at the States.

Yes but GBA hardware butchered the incredible soundtrack. I hope FFIV sounds at least sounds the same as SNES counterpart.
