Final Fantasy IV Port Issues

The game is pretty decent. I'm not gonna tell you anymore to spoil anything about the game. The issues, I've been experiencing are just annoyances and I've never played the Super Nintendo version, so I assume it's a port issue.

When you use the airship throughout the world there are, what seem to be stutters, which occur predictably enough and might be noticeable, and it's annoying.

What's more annoying if that in battle, slow downs constantly occur and everytime a charcter or enemy attacks, it pauses the "action meter" making battles longer. And because of the slowdowns, sometimes when you press buttons, they don't register, so it's easy to mess up and heal someone that you didn't mean to.

When in battle, the item description doesn't show when choosing an item. That would have been nice. And some items, when not in battle, the descriptions aren't even correct. They didn't describe the difference between a cottage and a tent. I had to figure out the hard way that the tent doesn't give you all your MP back. However, it says for both, "Recover HP and MP."

Often, after your character attacks, he/she becomes immediately available to attack again.

The game would've benefitted from a journal to keep track of progress. Say your couldn't play for a while and forgot where you were supposed to go next. I realize most RPGs don't have this, IIRC, but I still find it a fault.

yeah, i hate the slowdown during battle. really messes things up sometimes.

i also noticed another glitch during battle. sometimes after a character attacks, he/she immediately becomes available. ever notice that? It's one of the better glitches, i think hehe.

so the tent only gives a partial recovery eh? didn't know that.

i just got to the Tower of Babel. man, i forgot so much of what happens in this game. good to finally play it again :)

thats the only major annoyance for me too. no item description in battle. however, once i got to higer levels i basically just used remedy potions to cure status effects.

I can't believe there's slowdown in this. Damnit! That totally ruined the FF remakes on the PSX for me, and it sucks that tradition carried through to the GBA :(.

it's nothing like PSX's slowdown.

just minor pauses during battle, nothing big.

Has anyone tried this on a DS? Does that help get rid of the slowdown at all? I'm not sure how the backwards compatability works, but it would make sense that it would help the slowdown because the DS is quite a bit more powerful.

Yes, very minor. I've encountered it maybe 3 times and it was barely noticeable.

The reviews I read have highlighted the performance issue. It is a shame but I'd suffer through it to play FF4 on the road.

The tent always offered partial recovery. What the hell is the point of the cabin if the tent can do it all?

Anyway, if the game is anything like American FF2 or Japanese FF4, then a tent heals 1000 HP and 100 MP. The cabin heals everything to max.

Since the OP never played the original, can somebody please tell me about the new dungeons they added? I'm trying to decide if the game is worth buying again. I was pretty impressed with all the improvements and additions they made on Final Fantasy Dawn of Souls.
